BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

SO I moved in to a new build, there is fibre bundled up just inside the house and Openreach have confirmed once the equipment goes in I will be able to get up 330Mb.

Any ISP's currently doing this?

Anyone using it, what router are you using?
AFAIK you're currently limited to Zen, BT or Andrews & Arnold. Plusnet have been doing a trial for existing customer only for what seems like years.

Thanks, just looked at the price of 330 on Zen... ouch.. £99 a month.

Looks like I will stick to 80mb until the prices come down to a normal level.

I'm still waiting for BT to activate my broadband, it's a FTTP install - all the equipment has been installed but the Homehub just shows an orange light. It was supposed to be activated on the 8th December but excuse after excuse it still isn't activated. So frustrating and utterly shocking support service. Unfortunately BT are my only choice for fibre because no other ISP who offer FTTP can see my address, I'm currently on a new build estate.

They keep telling me the order is 'stuck' at the Openreach end where it has to manually be processed through some Phoenix software system, I just can't fathom why it is taking so long, surely it can't be that difficult to process an order remotely (I first placed the order on the 25th November!).

Is it even worth me complaining to someone like Ofcom? I'm well aware it probably won't speed things up. I just hate the fact Openreach are not customer facing and hide behind BT Retail/Business. I've heard bad stories about BT but I didn't think it would happen to me, it did :( - I will vow to never ever go with them again if I had the choice.

Doesn't the BT CEO's direct email address circulate every now and again - get that and complain directly to the top.
Nearly a month without broadband in this day and age really isn't acceptable.

So ive not had time to call BT with the crappy speed but just checked again and now im getting 3Mb Down from 65-70Mb

Anyone else getting crappy speeds and how quick was it to get sorted?
I had a nightmare just trying to get my login details reset for the website after being pushed though the Indian call centre

All ready for the upgrade on friday. Very excited, am predicted to get the full 76Mbps. :D

Unlocked Huawei 612 3B - Check
Asus RT-AC56U flashed to Advanced Tomato - Check

Cab is going to be quite full by the looks of it, 410 properties are connected to it.

Plusnet are sending an Engineer out to try and raise our upload!

I think I'll switch the Openreach modem back to the Plusnet Hub One before they turn up, as I don't want them blaming my equipment and charging me £50! ..the upload sync is the same with both units before someone asks :)

We're on the 80/20 package, getting 70 down consistently with speedtest.net, a 9 upload is half what I really want, as the neighbour is 600 metres away and gets 20 up, we're only 550 metres from the Cab.

550 m is quite a distance from a cabinet isn't it? I've never been more than 10 m away.

72 Mb/s down and 18 Mb/s up is about as fast as I ever see on speed test websites (with maximum sync speeds).

550m isnt very far, a few minutes walk? A lot of houses must be this far away (as are we) in situations where your village only has a single cabinet in the village centre with everyone spanning out from that.

This is us at 550/600m:

If I'm on an ECI cab, am I best with an OR ECI modem? Or does it not make much difference.

I get borderline 19 upload, but just under 45 download.
