Those figures obviously indicate a fault, and BT are lying when they say nothing can be done. The fact that your upload is within expected values only serves to highlight the fault even further.

You're right to cancel the DD. I know there's guidelines on what is acceptable for FTTC speeds; have you tried emailing the CEO of (OpenReach is it? Ian somebody?).

Yep I emailed CEO and BT ELC are dealing with it, my speeds are normal now offpeak. its capacity/congestion

Ahhh, I thought it was a DSLAM issue. It's not a fault as such then, it's simply poor performance on BT's network.

Dumb question: what made you sign up with BT Retail?

I don't know, massive mistake, it was only real FTTC provider at the time.

I know for a fact there are FTTC enabled cabinets less then 500m from my house.

Everyone will be pleased to know that my connection has finally gone back to fastpath.

It looked like there was some RF noise on NYE (maybe special lights or sound system?) which caused it to add 8ms downstream interleaving about 4am on new years day. So it only took 23 days for it to turn off again.

Anyone any experience of the ECI Telecom B-FOCuS V-2FUb/I Rev.B modem that BT are supplying? I've just realised i've got one of these and not a Huawei!

They can be unlocked, but takes a bit more skill, what type of cab have you got?

I think the easyest thing to do is get a Huawei or you can't unlock it your self, there is an online service that will unlock it for a small fee.

Drove past my cabinet today and there is activity at last.

It's all been dug up next to the cabinet and on the work barriers it says 'work being carried out on behalf of Openreach' (something like that, that's all I could read while driving). Hoping this is the start of the FTTC cabinet going in.

Yeh looks like a bit of a minefield that really. So there is nothing I can do bar get hold of a Huawei?

I've also got the ECI Telecom B-FOCuS V-2FUb/I Rev.B think all new installs get it now - its definitely not simple to unlock :| really annoys me BT have locked it down this way. At some point I'll probably get my own VDSL2 modem.

If I got something like a Draytek 2850n router which is VDSL enabled and just sack off the BT modem all together would that be a better option?
Would I be able to check my stats and do all I need to that way?

Yes, but I would like to know what stats before and after install the Draytek to see if they are for the better or worse.

It isn't that difficult! See my link above. There is a solder-free method.

Still quite a pain in the bum of a method to doing it really isnt it.

If I purchased a Huawei off Ebay would it be as simple as just swapping the ECI modem over with the Huawei and it would auto pick up the connection on the Huawei and continue running as normal?
