BTCC 2015

Sometimes you win, sometimes you watch...

Watched the first race last night, hoping to watch the rest tonight. I thought the Civic's were going to be quicker and I'm surprised how quick the VW's were!

Some great racing...I was more watching to follow the Clio Cup being I was very close to obtaining a race seat for this season and was doing some testing with 20Ten Racing last year.

The Clio Cup is a very close field for the majority of it and you have some real young guns who are out to prove a point (hence a lot of the 'argy bargy').

I'll be starting my sponsorship campaign earlier again this year with the aim for starting in 2016. More testing to come this year hopefully :D:D

What an absolute dream. Good luck!

Many Thanks Matt.

Finding money is the hardest part of Motorsport.

90% of drivers are funded through parents or financed by themselves. Thats why a few drivers run with blank cars.

It's all about building an attractive package that benefits commercial partners as much as it benefits the driver/team.

Sadly the drivers who are paid you can count on the fingers of one finger. Good luck, I know how much competing in such a series costs.

Thanks Housey.

Fortunately, series that a part of the TOCA package 'can' be easier to get sponsors on board purely down to the media coverage and exposure.

Were looking at a budget of around 70k for the season and this is factoring in 'light damage'. As soon as you start having big accidents the costs shoot up as you have to buy all spare parts from Renualt UK :( :(

Also paid drivers are extremely rare these days.

I would say only Plato, Neal, Shedden and Priaulx are the only drivers that are actually paid to race, and even then it may only be they take a 'cut' of sponsorship money.

Everyone else is pretty much self funded, it's why drivers come and go between seasons and sometimes races because the money just dries up.

As you see above Ive got friends/associates who race in the package and have a few more that have had a stab over the last few years as drivers and entrants. It is incredibly hard to do it well, so many teams are really on the breadline in BTCC right now, but good luck.

I was under the impression BTCC offered good value for sponsors, but with only 9 manufacturer backed entries, Gonzo0's assessment is probably correct.

We are still climbing out of a recession and it's quite difficult for companies to justify giving teams/drivers hundreds of thousands of pounds for 'sponsorship'

Motorbase lost their Airwaves sponsorship over the winter and due to this they cannot currently run (although confirmed as a 2015 entrant).

There are only 3 Manufacturer backed i.e. "works" teams, Honda/Team Dynamics, MG/888 and this year Infiniti/Support Our Paras = 6 entries

This year WSR's 3 BMW's are classed as a Constructor rather than Independant, but are still not a manufacturer backed team:

I assume the sponsorship exposure isn't necessarily as good as we would think otherwise 3 "big" sponsors wouldn't have left between last season and this (EBay/Tesco/Airwaves) - or is it a case of after 2 or 3 years the sponsorship on the car isn't as effective, as people are so used to seeing it?

Just to put some ideas of cost into scale for you guys...

You 'probably' need at least £250k to be able to run a car competitively for a season...you could probably do it for less but dont expect to be chasing points anytime soon.

In comparison to other 'touring car' series the BTCC is seen as good value :D

Nah much more that price is perpetuated by Gow
