Thanks for everyones kind words. It'll be tough to get over him, but he's brought us a lot of joy, and us him hopefully :).

Thinking of getting a new kitten for Christmas? It might counter your Winter Blues now your cats buggered?
We were wondering if it might be ok to get a kitten/young cat in his last month or so if we can keep him at home, or if it would upset him. Not sure yet.

I'm sorry Platypus :(

On the plus side when did you get married? It doesn't seem 5 minutes since you broke up with your last GF. My word time is flying!
25th of August, we've been together over 3 years now; the last 'mistake' is quite a long way in the past!

Sorry to hear it, just had my dog put down a week ago after 10 years together and it's a heart breaking thing.

My cat is now weeing blood all over the place again so he's going back to the vets tomorrow :( Just can't win at the moment.

Gutted for you mate :(
Just make sure his last days he's comfy and not in pain.

Don't leave it til tomorrow mate, Vets now.
A cats bladder can rupture pretty quick unfortunatley.
There should be an Out of hours emergency number for your local vet.

I missed the comma :p!

Ok we're really not sure what to do. We brought him home last night with some steroids which will help his kidneys and - according to the vet - make sure he doesn't suffer any pain. But naturally he's still moping about and feeling sorry for himself, drinking loads (good) but not eating much at all (bad). Then there is going to be the trick of getting him to eat the steroids..!

Should we just say our goodbyes and then let him go? Or give him a few extra months - we've been told he'll have a good few months on the steroids, and feel no pain.

It's natural to want to hold onto them as long as we can, but I'm really not sure if we're being fair to him :(.

That's a really difficult situation, platypus. I don't envy you.

Maybe just keep an eye on him for a few days and if he starts eating well and takes the steroids then give him those extra few months, and use them to properly say goodbye.

If nothing improves, though, it would be best to let him go sooner.

Its a difficult decision to have to make. If he's not suffering any pain, then I would say let him carry on for a while longer at least and make his final months the happiest ones you possibly can.

I hate to be a bearer of bad news but how will you know if your cat is in pain, both of my cats had serious problems before they died, and nither cried more often or showed outward signs of pain, if i would have let them carry on... i dread to think of the pain they would endure if thier innards popped or just the consistant pain they cant show you.
