I was wondering what to do with that cable, I definitely be ordering one of those, thanks for the tip.

Still waiting to see what OC say about the motherboard, hopefully it is faulty and will be replaced.

Haha as soon as i saw this pic i new what you were gona say.... I too had the exact same problem.. that bloody 8 pin is a pain... i ran mine along the top of the mobo.

Some advice for cable management..... take every single wire out and start again, each wire you put it cable it and move on:

As you can see i've put the 8pin above the tray, altho you can still see the 8pin connection which i'm going to be sorting:

"Warranty Void : CPU Socket Pins Bent"

Dam my week gets worse...................

Could the CPU be damaged too

Thats not cool .. did you push the cpu in the socket ?

you dont want to do that .. just drop it in . also just have a look at the cpu if the pins all look straight them im sure your fine..

expensive mistake tho

You can route the 6/8pin power cable to the side of the motherboard under neath the PCi slot. The cards card has a small niche or run it under the motherboard itself.

I don't know how it happened, I thought I was careful but I guess not, I take there word for it as it is my first full build, although it is a painful pill to swallow.

I probably order another board today once I get the other one back.

just when you do put the cpu just drop it in once the arrows are aligned Zero Insertion Force is the way it should go in just make sure you line up the arrows and then just drop it in .

all should be well

For the record tho... when you do pull the lever down to secure the cpu it can be quite tough and will prob put you off after whats happened... very supprised at the pin's bending i will be honest.

Well I have ordered another motherboard and a 8 pin extension :rolleyes:

, delivery is for Monday, hopefully I dont have to shell out on a new CPU as well.

I have found a company who claim they can straighten the pins for the other motherboard, so if there can fix it, then I sell that one.

bad luck on the pins its on of those things i always hate with a new build. I always break into a sweat when i need to apply even a tiny amount of force. Bending the pins on a £200 cpu is not fun

Good build though, making me itch to actually buy my new pc now

There's a high chance the CPU is fried too - and I doubt OcUK will replace it, as it is highly likely the damange was caused by the faulty installation.

Unlucky.

I don't think so - I am by no means an expert with these sorts of things but if the Mobo pins were bent then as long as none came out and got stuck in the CPU then it should (touch wood) be fine.

It came up to about £1650 for the build, although its raised more since I had to shell out more money for a motherboard and hopefully not a CPU as well.

£1650+ for your first build! do you have money to burn? I suggest that you get some help when you start again as this could get really expensive in the long run.

Fine line between applying pressure and applying too much pressure.

I've been fortunate in that i've (so far) never broken a component while installing. Did my first complete build years ago by just trying to put the right sized thingy in the right sized hole. Definitely get those pins straightened and sell the mobo. Or it's possible some place will buy it off you with bent pins and fix it themselves.

Prove the OP received a motherboard with bent pins, and these were not caused by the OP somehow damaging them - ie: by forcing the CPU in the wrong way round?
