27 years in a burger King is not commendable enough to donate money to some guy just because he wasn't happy with the reward on offer.
The reward on offer was pretty rubbish for length of service and should have been thought of more. But Burger King isn't set up for people to spend years of their life there in the same manner so I doubt they have much in the way of long service awards.

Is there something special about the number 27 which means it should trigger a long service award? Or are you suggesting he should get an award annually as his service has increased each year?
I can understand getting some recognition at multiples of 5 or 10 years or something.
I really get the impression there are some really bitter, sad and envious people in this thread and thats kind of depressing. At the end of the day his kids set it up for him with no real expectations and it snowballed into a huge thing and they are now making the most of peoples good wishes and generosity, as would most people. No-one here has been forced or asked to donate money to him so if you dont agree the simple answer is to shut up, say nothing and dont be a miserable, bitter little sad act. To those that say well "why dont i set up a go fund me for X person for X reason"... go do it. Nothing to stop you doing so.
Some of the posts here stink of jealousy and I get the impression some of the people posting wouldn't donate to a colleagues kid if they needed specialist cancer treatment in another country as the reasoning would be "not my kid and not my fault the kid got cancer so why should i give them money".
For the record I'm all about personal fiscal responsability but i've not practised that myself and paid the price in the past, however i have no qualms about good will or charity.
There's enough pain, misery, greed, jealousy (some of these seem to be posting in this thread it seems) and destitution in the world with more to come with the cost of living crisis, so a little good will and a heart warming story is always welcome in my books.
Anyway im done with this thread since you cant reason with some people.

Jealousy is not a pretty thing to witness. In fact it’s actually embarrassing.

Some guy goes in with his "assistance dog" an employee tells him dogs aren't allowed, he asks for a manager and then is allowed to have the dog in the restaurant... but he films it and complains to the press anyway because he didn't like their attitude etc..

At one time I did my day job, and I drove ride share 9pm until 4am. One ride I had the joy of having two guys who recently graduated uni. One of the guys was talking about his dad and how he only ever worked for X amount of money, and how little he thought of his Dad as he himself was now earning 250k a year in the banking sector. His friend was saying how the other kids Dad had worked hard all his life and got him through uni.
To sit their listening to this ungrateful guy mock and belittle his father was quite something. He was lucky yo have a friend that tried to teach him better. The obnoxious guy minds me of some of you mocking a guy for having the audacity to work hard.

No, multiples of 5 but I don't know why 27 would prompt any reaction. I just meant that the reward on offer should have been considered more. Of course 5 or 10 year intervals are arbitrary anyway so why not 27 doesn't make much difference as you still have to come in the next day.
