I can't see Lewis staying where he is. The car he is running looks to be so compromised by the set-up and floor that I reckon most will sail past him.

Which has been said virtually every race, yet he and Russell are almost only cars to have finished in the points at every single race this year.

When it comes to the race, Hamilton's skills, knowledge and racecraft always help him finish in positions the car really should not be.

So happy to see alonso up to p2. Amazing. He had a great chance at a similar start position not long ago but reliability stole it.

Alonso will go for the lead. And max would be sensible to yield with leclerc at the back. Especially as he will get alonso at some point.

Guys I'm dreaming of an alonso podium!

I was thinking about buying a now TV pass to watch live. Then I saw it was 12 quid for a day.

Ouch!

Unless he fluffs the start and gets in trouble with a fired up Alonso, Max will be coasting through this. His only challenge being fighting the team to let him get fastest lap.

George really showed his inexperience with that call for slicks, I immediately knew it was a mistake and so did Brundle judging by the sound of his voice. Some gambles are worth going for but that wasn't one of them.

Nice comparison of the rear wing on the two Mercedes:

Probably that means that Russell had the advantage in the wet during Quali but Lewis will be faster in the race.
It's well known in recent years that Hamilton likes to prioritize race setup at the expense of qualifying results, which is why Bottas often had a good qualifying but was absolutely nowhere in race pace.

Without rain this is likely Max' to throw away today, should be a good battle behind, great to see Alonso on the front row and a shout out for Mick Schumacher as well - kept his head in challenging conditions - I hope he can get his first points today.

I disagree on the George parts

If it had worked he would now be praised as a genius (The issues I had with it was he went to early to try the gamble he could have gotten another two laps in with inter and when it failed he had time to switch to try get 1 lap in with inter but stayed out)

I expect the team was happy to get LH in front of him for once without making excuses ;)

George is not in a really bad spot anyway and this track is known for overtaking plus safety car.

I think someone has had a word with Brundle I have noticed a switch in him and how in the wet for this one he was going on about how hard it is etc complete opposite to Monaco with him very verbal about they should be racing the same in the past even stating how he had raced in conditions like or worse.

This is why they love Croft he gives of the vibe of a complete a** kisser I cant stand it this is what you see now in all sports I would rather people tell it as it is.

Alonso will no doubt hold the whole grid off letting max just run away with it, oh and latiffi is just terrible isn’t he!

Please let it rain.
Hope either Alonso or Sainz are able to jump him to make the race somewhat interesting if it's dry! Max lucky Leclerc is at the back but will be interesting to see how he recovers, Grid is shaken up enough to hopefully see some good battles throughout.

There wasn't really an "If it had worked" in my opinion, it was so wet in the first sector that there was zero chance of it working.

It was said at the start of the weekend that hamilton is using the baku level of downforce where the track really needs a bit more but they are still experimenting with the car to find fixes. Think hamilton said they have gone a bit extreme and if it doesn't work he will be stuffed

I think he's right.

He isn't a back marker. Could have thrown away a front row start.

The track was clearly completely wrt in places. And there was no time to get the tyres up to temperature. Had it been a session with more time maybe. But there was no way that track was going to be ready by the flag.

If max gets in front of alonso he will lap most of not all the field.

I really hope alonso gets into turn 1 first.
A sensible max would back off if there is any risk of collision.
I'm sure this will be heavily discussed before race start in RBR

Wouldn't be surprised if Alonso "settles" for 2nd into yhe first corner. He won't be able to keep Max behind all race but he's got good chance to keep rest of the field behind him
