So the Alonso train continues , standby for a Max lead of over 3 seconds after a few laps !

Another great tyre choice by Mercedes’ in Q3 , still I suppose Toto had to stop the Lulu embarrassment sooner or later .

In all seriousness why do you put on a slick in qualifying when the track is still wet! First mistake I can see you have made George and might cost you points today.

More likely to be Alonso and Sainz tangling into the first corner. Sainz is not going to want to get stuck behind Alonso, so will push it to the limits - and we've seen what happens when Sainz does that.

Nah, Max will sail off into the distance.

Sainz will bottle it or have a technical failure, Hamilton will struggle to pass Alonso and the two Haas will go backwards.

Russell will pass Ocon and put pressure on Hamilton, a dodgy pit stop strategy or safety car will swap them around.

Or none of the above. :p

I would really like to see Hamilton on the podium though.

He said over the radio. It was his choice, and a gamble to go for pole. What's to loose, P6?

I expect the story of the day might be around team orders. McLaren, Mercedes and Ferrari have their lead driver currently sitting behind their teammate. Will we see some embarrassing team orders coming into play today.

He’s lost a good chance of P4 on the Grid on a track where it’s difficult to pass , if you noted his Q2 amd Q3 times he was well up there .

Like I said Bad choice on Georges part , shame as I’m routing for him this year .

Ferrari maybe but I can’t see much point for Merc or McLaren unless the car in front is much, much slower and there’s a realistic chance of the car behind gaining additional places.

I wonder whether we'll see a first or second corner incident between Alonso and Max, I can't see Alonso yielding if he can get alongside Max and, well, Max is Max.

If we've learnt much from this season so far I'd say it's Carlos sadly isn't world championship material. Has had a race winning package under him all season and has spurned every winning opportunity he's had mostly with unforced errors at clutch moments.

Sainz was very much flattered by luck last year. But I think he bought into his hype as much as anyone else, and he's now struggling to deal with the unsurprising fact he's just not as good as Leclerc.

Rear gunner is about his level I feel.

To be a good rear gunner he needs to be much more reliable than he is.

If, and its a big IF, Alonso can pull off one of his miracle starts and jump Max and hold him up for a few laps. It could make for a fun first half of the race. Would likely push max into a fight with Carlos.

But more likely Alonso will hold up the pack while max skitters off into the sunset.

Looking at the decision documents: Albon, Leclerc, and Sainz cleared of driving excessively slowly. Zhou and Gasly reprimanded for failing to go round the bollard when they came off at turn 9. Those reprimands seem a bit harsh given the conditions but whatever.

Why do people still keep going on about the no pod design?

It has NOTHING TO DO WITH PORPOISEING........

Mercs could swap back to the conventional side pods used in the Barcelona test in an instant, if that was the solution, or even a part of the solution.

They have not swapped back, because it makes absolutely no damn difference at all to the performance of the car.
I wasnt talking about porppoising. I was talking about the fact that teams will always moan about each other based on the competitive advantage either has. The reason no one is interested in talking about Merc's design now is because they are not battling at front. If that was the case, RB and Ferrari would have challenged that to some extent or the other.

I’d love this. Whenever given the chance Alonso seems super keen to put the current leaders back a peg or two. He did it to Hamilton a few times last year but I guess that’s personal. Could be interesting, but I doubt he’d be able to hold Max up much once they get going.

Russell radio - Yeah sorry about that. I wanted to go for it.

Pit - We are P8

Russell - Yeah.... copy that.... I didn't want to settle for P4, P5, P6. I wanted to go for it.

Wolff - George, Strong call. Tomorrow.

I suppose its nice to see risks being taken, but it really did seem too early for slicks. Brundle on the commentary just knew it was too early as well
