Canon 7D, 18-85 f3.5-5.6 IS USM, 18-135 f3.5-5.6 IS USM infos

18Mp on a crop sensor is just madness. I only hope this is some kind of special sensor like a Fovean or Fuji EXR. A Straight 18MP Bayler sensor will have major limitations -.not least the Diffraction limitation and noise from the minute pixel pitch.

Pre-Order prices are up on a big warehouse site that does express delivery ;)

7D £1699
7D 18-135 £2099
7D 15-85 £2399

All with a 8gb CF card and a spare battery (apparently these are worth £170?)

I take it the 15-85mm IS 3.5-5.6 will be similar to Nikon's 16-85, but it's pretty much twice the price.

The 8GB card is UDMA so will take complete advantage of that 100+ buffer :)

Still...a bit steep!

Looks great. Pretty much as expected. I have to say that I did expect dual card slots but not a massive issue.

LOL? Where did you hear that? I guess that's how much the battery grip will be :o

I think the price over here is fair but I dont see why it's the same in $ exactly :/

[Edit] It uses the LP-E6 battery, same as the 5D II which are £30-60 for official ones. You can only really buy official ones because they are chipped to give more detailed battery meter info, third party ones will just show empty in the camera.

It cost me £55 for mine...the grip was £200....basically £255 for using the grip (so i can have dual battery)....you can get a new DSLR for that !

Not seen the price of the Canon but the Nikon Equivalent 16-85 is not cheap.

Expect the lens to have great quality form wide open. The Nikon is too expensive for what it is but is still an excellent lens. The wide end over 18mm lens is a godsend.

Wide open? It's only f/3.5-5.6! If it was constant f/2.8 then maybe it'd be worth £700 but, compared to the 17-55 f/2.8 and 24-70L f/2.8, it simply doesn't justify the price.

If, OTOH, the street price ends up nearer the 17-85 at around £400, then that's more reasonable.

I'm going to assume the 15-85 is going to come down in price a fair bit, otherwise I can't see why anyone would buy one over the 17-55 f/2.8.

You can get the Nikon 16-85 for £430~ and I'd imagine they will be fairly comparable with both sporting 4 stop stability, similar apertures and being fairly damn sharp.

The Nikkor 16-85 is under £500?

Makes my fancy of a D300 even more DO WANT!

The samples are off a a pre-beta 7D body though as Canon have made a statement about this to take into consideration. Haven't there been samples in the past of prerelease bodies having better images after release models came out?

lol @ DSLR wars between Canon and Nikon, its hilarious!

The 7D does look quite good though, and available for pre order at £1699, its undercutting the D700.

Still.....it shouldn't be pitted against the D700 as FF is a big sell when you get to that sort of money.
