*** Car Wash / Valet / Detailing Thread ***

Yes, it's great. Wash the glass well first and follow the instructions and it'll strip everything off the screen. Whether that will cure your issue, I do not know however.

If you get the ultra glaco too it makes for a great pairing. If you get judder (which you shouldn't) some of it in the blades should cure it.
Thanks. I haven't bought the complimentary coatings yet, I just want to get the screen clean first. I might them separately if the compound works though.

Used the compound after cleaning the car yesterday evening. Went for a drive this morning and predictably, it was overcast for the first time in days, so no low sun to really test if the residue I was seeing is completely gone. But I think it's worked. You sometimes used to see a haze of it when using the wipers, don't get that anymore. And of course, theres absolutely no beading of water on the screen anymore, so it's definitely completely free of any previous coatings.

Surprised a claybar didn't do the job. Although to be fair, I only went over it lightly using water, as I would with paint work; the Glaco compound comes out like a heavy polish and appears to be designed to be used with quite a lot of pressure.

EDIT: sky cleared up this evening, so as the sun dropped, I just nipped out for a quick drive - sucess! Driving into the sunset where this haze used to make my screen almost opaque, it's now totally gone and crystal clear. Very happy - will probably now purchase the Glaco Ultra to compliment it.

I cleaned the car on Saturday, it was pretty dirty after quite a few miles put on the last few weeks. I can't even remember the last time I cleaned the car thanks to having to wait until the one specific parking space becomes available.

Keeping my fingers crossed we exchange on the house we've had an offer accepted on, it'll make things much easier. The paint is feeling rough under towel drying, even with FSE as a drying aid. I've got the chemicals but just need a more powerful pressure washer and a day that's not so hot things dry within a couple of minutes.

Before and after on the wheels

Had my MR2 project for almost a year now, getting close to having it back on the road. It's been unloved for 7 to 8 years now and is obviously very faded. The paintwork is not in amazing condition. But I did just tickle it with some Megiuars ultimate compound just to see how well it might come up. I think I've got a very long weekend coming up at some point soon to get the whole car looking half decent, but it certainly shows signs of improvement :D

Useful video that thank you :) didn't realise I could go straight from compound to wax on a solid colour. That should save no end of time.

@andy_mk3

Now that must have been an extremely satisfying tape line peel :D

Many hours of work ahead but what a transformation there will be.

Many hours indeed yes, and yes it was very satisfying :D

Just picked up a 2020 discovery sport, the dealership did a pretty good job cleaning it but I think it needs a bit of TLC. It's black so if I get real close to it I can spot some swirling etc.

What's the best way/products to revive it a bit, mainly getting rid of the swirling etc? Should I clay it first, and is bilt hamber still decent (used it several years ago and seemed pretty good).

Guessing I'd need to invest in a machine polisher as I don't have one currently..

If you do it by hand, you’ll either:

Have very large arm muscles on the arm you use.

Or

Only fill the scratches temporarily.

Best get a DA orbital with pads. Scholl Concepts Spyder Blue + 20 Black is the best combo I’ve used for a single stage.

Awesome, will give it a go. Any polish recommendations for something like this?

The Scholl Concepts S20 Black is a polish - single stage, meaning it has a cut and finish.

Combine with a heavy cut pad, my preference being the Scholl Spyder Blue/Navy.

I find it does a really good job at getting a lot of the surface scratches out and adding a lot of gloss.

Realising my shampoo is absolute rubbish - got a starter kit years ago and it's all tat. Barely produces any suds even if I double the dosage.

What's good to start me off afresh? Just washing for now e.g. shampoo, maybe wheel cleaner and maybe something for a soft top. In future I will get some polish and stuff for a paint correction on both cars, but for now just looking for a more effective clean.

Currently using the 2 bucket method but might buy a spray bottle or two. Again I'll probably get an outdoor tap fitted in future but not just yet.

So what shampoo and maybe spray on pre cleaner are decent value?

Bilt Hamber Touchless in a sprayer (weed sprayer type thing)

Bilt Hamber Auto Wash

Bilt Hamber Auto Wheels

You’ll never need anything more for a great quality clean.
