*** Car Wash / Valet / Detailing Thread ***

For reasons I can't quite explain there was a weird satisfaction to washing and waxing the car (just a quick spray on job while drying)... Then completely splattering both sides with mud due to flooded lanes around the village.

50 shades of grey springs to mind.

It's clean I'll give you that.

It’s a fabulous colour for hiding blemishes and the like, since the primer is a similar colour.

no visible water spots, road grime is harder to see etc

But it also only has 500 miles so it should still come up pretty well :P

I’m in need of Shampoo - Tempted to try a Ceramic Infused as mentioned above.

Usually go for Shampoo’s without Gloss Enhancers (Excluding AB Purple Velvet)

Does anyone change to a specific Shampoo come winter, something with abit more “Bite”? Although suppose amount used can be increased for more cleaning power.

TW Hybrid Solutions - Slick n Slide has caught my eye, as well as TAC’s Mystic Bubble.

Just to follow up on the above post…

I decided to go with a Ceramic Wash from Turtle Wax Hybrid Solutions - Not had chance to use it as of yet but I’ll give it a go next wash.

Not many reviews of it but their Hybrid Solution’s range seems to get good praise, it seems Turtle Wax upped their game with the new ish product range.

Value for money was a deciding factor here, 2.8 Litres for £14 Delivered. (In terms of Ceramic based Shampoo’s it’s a bargain IMO)

I usually only go for Shampoo’s with no Gloss Enhancers/Protection as I enjoy the process and don’t mind going round the car adding finishing touches but during the winter months if I can skip that step I’ll be very pleased!

What's the dilution ratios of those bad boys Gilbert.

Something I hadn’t thought about actually…

Reverse of bottle states 1 Cap Per Litre of Water - Seems a shallow cap, online suggests 3oz per 4 Litres of Water.

Perhaps less concentrated than some others on the market, but they tend to be £20 for 500ML.

Autobrite’s Black Friday Sale has begun for anyone interested, I’ve plenty of supplies now but may have a look for Christmas Presents… Looks like 50% off plenty of 5L Staples such as Citrus Wash, Wheel & Tyre, Britegel etc.

Halfords sell AD stuff

They used too, some still do but are adding stock to clearence as I believe they cut ties with Autobrite, officially an announcement from AB confirming.

I really like Autobrite Products, it’s all I tend to use in 5L Form but I do think they’re pricing and marketing tactics are questionable sometimes.

I’ll only pick them up discounted, 5L Citrus is £17, 5L Britegel £18, 5L Wheel and Tyre £17 - They last a very long time and are worthwhile picking up discounted.

So how much is that in ml for a 10L mix. At first glance it seems very high.

Each one will do 16 4L buckets according to the suggested ratio.

Not sure how you'd need 10L of soapy water for a wash!

I'd get at least 10 washers per container which seems to be 70p per wash or less based on what he paid. Seems decent enough to me.

88ML per 4 Litres?

Does seem high, although I’m not sure how much I believe the 1500:1 Dilutions some Shampoo’s Claim.

I don’t usually use buckets filled to the brim of water to be honest, after my Citrus Pre Wash or/and Snowfoam probably a 10 Litre Bucket 3/4 Full will do me.

Besides watching me awkwardly carry my 20 Litre Bucket full to the brim is not a good look

I’ll see how it fairs and report back anyhow!

10L bucket is the standard. 20L is overkill and 4L in winter grime is way too stingy.

And that turtle wax stuff you got is not VFM at all. Not trying to bring shade on your purchase but I learnt the hard way with turtle wax shampoo when I bought the carnauba one to find out it used way too much.

I bought 5L of Garage Therapy /ONE: Car Shampoo (V2) for £35.... and use 30ml in a 10L bucket and that's mega generous. Does the Clubman and the wheels.

Less than 25p per wash even with my OTT dilution in a 10L mix with GT shampoo which recommended s 5ml for 10L and I use 20 to 30.

TW would be over £1.50 for a 10L.

Agreed - Plenty of higher dilution more economical Shampoo’s available.

But this Shampoo has Gloss Enhancers and Ceramic Protection - With this in mind, it still appears good value in line with alternative shampoo’s which aim to offer the same qualities.

So it’s not Apples for Apples in relation to Garage Therapy’s Shampoo.

I wanted to try a Shampoo which will top up/boost the existing Hydrophobic Layer throughout winter where durability is usually tested and products are degraded between washes.

For some reason I thought my buckets were 5L, they are in fact 14L!

I guess that is a little more pricey.

Personally I still use the bog standard Carplan stuff that costs £5 for 5L. That just gets chucked in with no measurement at all!

I’ve used that before too, used to be £8 for 5L on Amazon.

If it’s Green? Trade Valet Shampoo… It’s the same stuff as Demon Foam.

It’s nice to generously just pour an amount, usually using more than required but as it’s so inexpensive it’s not a major issue.

Recently I’ve been more strict on my dilution ratio’s as it’s easy to be heavy handed when you have everything in 5L form, less is more usually like with anything.

Finally a day of sunshine and only a 5 minute downpour AS I WAS APPLYING THE CERAMIC COATING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! - Had to run around like maniac wiping everything again once it passed lol.

Bilt Hamber clay bar (forgot how butter smooth paintwork gets after using these, it's been years since I clayed the car)
+
Autofinesse Triple (my go-to for paintwork polish/undercoat)
+
Turtlewax Hybrid Solutions Ceramic spray (says it lasts 12 months with just 2 coats)

I actually found the ceramic spray tedious to apply and wipe as it leaves streaks since it immediately begins to cure so unless you use a damp rag, expect streaks that then need to be wiped with a damp drying towel at the very end of it all. Long as it lasts I'm fine, the results speak for themselves tbh with the deep gloss and swirl fill-in that triple delivers, then the ceramic coating on top.

My process hasn't changed, still takes about 4 hours to wash and finish it all. Good workout for sure :p
