Check Your 4090's 12vhpwr Connectors To Make Sure They are in Pristine Condition

It is I have to say to be perfectly honest, Stiff or not, We've all been there but making this mistake on an expensive part is even worse but as I suspected a couple of weeks ago it was user error, If it's not clicked or latched don't use it.

Totally, I crushed the cores on multiple Athlon XPs in a row back in the day fitting a phase change cooling head incorrectly.
Totally my fault but blamed the stiff pipes and mounting hardware anyway!
We all make mistakes.

3 of the 5 2nd hand AM4 cpus I bought last year came with bent pins. 2 ebay, 1 members mart. With one of the ebay chips (and others I've seen since!) you could actually make out the bent pin in the picture. I had even noticed it but thought it was from the grove bend in the plastic casing.

Lessons learnt. People bust stuff. They may not even realise they've done it judging from the fact you can see auctions with bent pins in the pictures! Most people are not expert PC builders because they only do it once every 2-4 years. Don't buy any more 2nd hand AM4 CPUs or 2nd hand AM5 mobos in future without a clear shot of the pins.

I'll be looking at 2nd hand 4090s in two years (need the 24gb) but will just factor in a new cable cost.

I think this Nvidia cable issue is a much smaller issue than the AM4 design that no one talks about. You still see people on here telling others to 'twist' the cooler when trying to remove it from the CPU.

How much force does it take to creat that wear line? I didn’t notice a line on the adpter he was using to demonstrate improper installation.
The point is that if the connector fails as plastic softens the wear line becomes significantly more visible as well as the plastic deform tells the story about insertion level.

That’s how Nvidia and GN’s specialist able to ascertain that all cases of connector burning have single common sign - improper insertion.

Really embarrassing for all the people posting their failed connectors online when it’s their fault for not plugging it in right.
Indeed, clearly some lacking in the upstairs department for 1) messing up the install 2) crying about it online

It amazing how herd mentality can drive the stupid and idiotic to think it is someone else’s fault but their own.

i would be swapping a 1700 with 5800x3d.. interested in what you wrote there, whats the ideal method to take out the cpu? i am on asrock x370 killer sli/ac. thanks

Let’s not forget all the fear mongering, cablemod salesmen, YouTubers, class action lawsuits, the list goes on…
Literally fifty odd people out of over a hundred thousand didn’t plug it in right, I wonder how much revenue these YouTube and cable people have made off of this.

I bought the Corsair cable for mine, £25 well spent for clean management, had it ordered from day one before meltgate. But I imagine lots who would happily use the adapter in an enclosed case have purchased something they maybe wouldn’t have.

Well, well the 4090 drama was nonsense then. 50 from 125000 cards?

AMD fanboys trying to blow this whole thing up, bad design …. nope, almost everyone could plug their cables in correctly.

Storm in a teacup.
From what i could read and see, most complaints were by people who actually bought them, so not AMD fanboys, but don't let put you off your own narative.

Oh come on, we had plenty of people who didn’t buy them (had no intention, berating people who did) who were gleeful at the chance Nvidia had made designed this connector (first lie) that was burning down PC’s etc.

The amount of hyperbole was off the charts, now they have all shrunk away.

The fact that people think that 50 is ok, is dumb. The gpu should not power on with how far out GN had it not plugged in before it started melting. That is a design fault, not just user error, but yet, because its ONLY 50 Nvidia gets a pass?
