Chinese Grand Prix 2010, Shanghai - Race 4/19

That was probably the only moment that made me angry today, and I'm not a Massa supporter. It was boarderline when Lewis pulled that on Vettel, but to do it to your team mate is disgusting. I imagine those two won't be talking for some time.

Alonso absolutely has to do this now, even if it means taking his team-mate off the track.

Massa has held up Alonso, race after race, when Alonso is much faster. Today we saw that once Alonso was released from behind Massa, Alonso was able to streak away and show just what the Ferrari was capable of.

If Ferrari want to win the title this year, I seriously think they need to start asking Massa to move aside (if he is holding Alonso up).

Had Alonso not overtaken Massa, where he did, he would've, once again, finished behind Massa, just as he has done in the previous 2 races.

Alonso absolutely did the right thing and if I were him, I would seriously think about taking Massa off in one of the next few races, just so that Ferrari's management are forced into a decision.

Jenson slowed down quite gradually in F1 terms, as far as I'm concerned everyone behind all just left it later and later which then caused the issue.

Jenson did nothing wrong. If the highly trained/capable drivers behind him are unable to check their speed, it isn't Button's fault.

thats pretty damn good :p

Lewis\Vettel\massa\Teflonso all in the stewards room..

I hope nothing happens after all it's called racing for a reason.

Why is no one talking about Hamilton weaving back into the pit lane and going effectively backwards, which Alonso did back in Valencia and was punished for.

Becuase of the tight layout at valencia the pit essentially joins straight onto the track so theres no room for playing about, china has a wide area of no-mans land which is essentially just a run off between them, its also the reason we have seen cars go down there 2 abreast when we wouldnt at valencia or monaco.

Good result for Mcclaren with a 1-2 finish although i feel sorry for Hamilton...seems like his team is totally making him look sub par compared to Button whos now won 2 races this season.

Was hoping that Hammy would have took him on the last lap but didnt happen...just happy that Vettel and the 2 Ferrari's got nowhere near the podium.

Was worried that with Alonso Ferrari would have been far more dominant.

Hopefully next race Hammy can break his duck and win a race.

Yeh that sounds like a good idea. If we start penalising 'enthusiasm' now we can probably sap 90% of the excitement from the sport by the end of the season.

I don't have any problem with what happened in the pit lane. You can do "what ifs" all day long. Fact of the matter is Lewis didn't get out of his box well and lost a place because of it.

I have no problem with enthusiastic racing on the track, but in the pitlane? Don't be so daft. Drivers clearly can't be jockeying for position in the pitlane.

Thought that was a bit naughty, when the camera first went to it thought Lewis went off. TBH I don't think he endangered anyone because of his actions so that was why nothing came about it.

Freaky alien!!! :D

.
It was where it happened that I disagree with - not that it actually happened.

Alonso blatantly crossed the white lines to complete the manouvre and yet didnt get penalised for it (and that manouvre allowed him - amongst others - to get 4th

Good race. Very pleased for Button.

Very disappointed with Alonso's pit lane entry move on Massa and the fact that he jumped the start.

Kate called him a "Cheating Spanish mother ******"

Such a classy Mrs I have :D

Cracking race - really enjoyed that, the last couple of laps I was biting my nails with worry for both Button and Hamilton, the cars were absolutely on the edge with those slick intermediates.

As Martin Whitmarsh said - in those kinds of conditions the team HAVE to rely on the driver on the track to tell them what every area is like , so "Hammy" has to call tyre choice himself, its not upto the team (or shouldnt be)

If he had a better feel for the tyres etc then he would be able to call it as early as JB - rather tha relying on people in the pitlane who only have a limited idea of whats going on

That was polite compared to what was said at my house hahahaha

On another forum i go on several pages of 'lol hamilton sucks with tyres!!' comments were quickly spawned when hamilton went off pace towards the end, absolutely nothing was said 2 laps later when buttons tyres fell apart allowing hamilton to more then make up the difference.

hamilton made up most of the difference when JB went off - rather than anything Hamilton did well imo

Some key points:

Schumacher: I've been speaking louder and louder about MS's poor form. The further we go into the season, the bigger the beating MS is taking. Its actually becoming painful to watch such a great driver (who I rate as the most complete driver F1 has ever seen), being used as Rosberg's whipping boy. From what I saw today, of the leading teams, MS was the driver who I believe was overtaken most - the RedBulls and Hamilton seemed to be overtaking him for fun. Of the leading teams, MS is the driver who is taking the biggest beating from his team-mate. This has to be humiliating for MS and I can't believe that MS will stay in F1 if this continues.

Rosberg: Ever since he arrived at Mercedes he is showing just what he is capable of. At Williams he was very fast in qualifying/practise sessions, but was poor in races. This year, he is showing good pace in qualifying, practise and in races. I actually think it might be better that Mercedes pool their resources behind Rosberg, as opposed to MS or Vettel (who Mercedes are after). I think Mercedes need to get a good team-mate for Rosberg, who will back Rosberg up.

Hamilton: Unequivocally, the most exciting driver in F1, by a country mile. His race craft is beyond doubt. His speed is beyond doubt. His main problem is that he allows McLaren to make the pit/strategy decisions and McLaren are VERY POOR in this area. When you compare this with Button, who make his own decisions - the difference is night and day. I would go so far as to say that when Hamilton is in doubt, he should look to see which tyres Button is on and simply duplicate Button's strategy.

Button: Button doesnt have the sheer speed of Hamilton. But what he lacks in outright speed, he makes up in cool/correct strategy/pit decisions. This was a good win for him and he has done the best job that could possibly have been expected of him. 2 wins from 4 races. Were it not for Hamilton, Button would be my driver of the day. JRS could be right about Button, but I still feel once we get to the dryer circuits where strategy is less important, Hamilton will pull ahead from Button.

RedBull drivers: In the dry, RedBull have the best car...by far. In the wet though, car performance counts for less and driver input counts for more. Based on that we have to say that Vettel/Webber aren't in the same category as Hamilton/Button/Alonso. Vettel still has a little way to go to be placed in the same category. In the dry though, Vettel is just as good and RedBull have a great opportunity to win the title, with Vettel, this year.

Ferrari: I think Alonso's overtake of Massa today, was Alonso saying, "I've had enough of this!" Alonso has been stuck behind his slower team-mate in all 4 races. In Bahrain, he managed to get past during the pitstops. In the following 2 races, he was unable to get past and today, Alonso bulldozed his way past. I think Ferrari have to step in and tell Massa to release Alonso, if he is climbing all over the back of him. Massa just doesnt have the speed of Alonso.

Driver of the day: Hamilton, for putting together the most overtakes, the fastest laps and for giving the audience what they crave - excitement.

So, heading into Europe, I think we are in for a great season. The main protagonists (2 McLarens, 2 Ferraris & Vettel) are all in with a shot at the title. This is exactly what we needed and is what we are getting.
