Chinese Grand Prix 2011, Shanghai International Circuit - Race 3/19

so how come resta made it over the line by less than a second? thats not more than enough time

What the hell are you on about? :p

What I said:

me said:
There was plenty enough time before the red flag came out for everyone to set a decent lap-time.

I could understand if you're from the 'sunama school of reading and comprehension™' that you might have trouble with the point I was making there. But once again, just for you:

Every driver in Q2 had the option available to them of setting a lap-time that they were happy with, quite a bit earlier than two minutes before the end of the session. As it turned out, Petrov had his car die on him. Oh well. As the great prophet Murray Walker would say - "Anything can happen in Formula One, and it usually does". Or put another way....**** happens. If you're forced to go late due to your car needing work - tough luck, but that's the way it goes. If you choose to go late and get caught when someone has a problem - tough luck, but that's the way it goes. You should have prepared better.

Savvy? Or do you need me to draw you pictures, and stick to words of one syllable?

:)

Its strange that JRS has me on his ignore list, yet seems to repeatedly bring my name up in his posts.

Oh and I would love for him to explain the whole post, using single syllables. That'll keep him busy. ;)

Actually, you're no longer on my ignore list. It turns out that I can see your post just fine if someone quotes you. So there's really no bloody point at all in having you set to 'ignore'. Hey ho :)

Don't tempt me :D

F1 championship over before it's got going due to German driver shocker.

never mind, McL might be fighting for wins in the second half of the season.

Is Hammi just using Rooney negotiating tactics or is he serious?

Does seem a bit Rooney'esque so far. He should be telling Whitmarsh to spend some of his salary on head-hunting RBR employees instead.

As he gets older Hammi is becoming less impressive, Vettel on the other hand seems a lovely bloke and is stunningly good.

Sadly, I think Vettel is going to be the man Hammi should have been. Actually I think Hammi has started believing his own hype.

What's going on with Hamilton?
Could be related to Martin Whitmarsh saying he'd happily sign Lewis and Jenson up for the next 5 years. Lewis apparently said that Martin hadn't said anything about that to him. This put a bit more fuel on the "Lewis to Red Bull next season as Webber retires" fire. :p

I think. :D

It's easy to be nice (although for the record, I still think he comes across as a spoilt kid) when everything is going to plan. If he had the start MW had, I'm sure he would be acting very differently.

Hammy needs to be careful... I really don't think a team with him and Vettled would work and this season has shown that every other team on the grid can produce a lemon, so leaving for Renault for Ferrari could result in him still being in a car that can't win races.

very true, I wonder how long Newey will stay for.

McLaren need to get Newey back on their books. And they need to utterly NAIL the 2013 engine regs with their own engine. 2013 will all be about who's got the best engine. And it definitely won't be Red Bull!

im sure horner can whine enough to get it sorted though...

Hopefully see Jenson getting a podium again tommorow :)

Nice to see him ahead of Hamilton, I always get the impression that Hamilton thinks it's his given right to finish ahead of Button!!

Newey extended his contract with Red Bull a couple months ago at the same time Vettel did. Horner said they hope Newey retires whilst at RBR.

Newey left McLaren because they denied him a more senior position in the team in decision making, hence why you see Newey on the RBR pit wall now at every race.

Wasn't that a similar reason for Newey leaving Williams for McLaren?

It could be argued that just because Newey wanted to have more say in decision making at McLaren, it doesn't necessarily mean he's good enough to make decisions and McLaren perhaps saw that? I'm not saying its right, it's just one possibility. Then Red Bull want him, offer him a job and big money, since it's pretty much a new team they say he can be in a more senior role than he was at McLaren.

I get that same impression from certain members of this forum too.
I don't know of any members of this forum who think its their right to finish ahead of Jenson! :p

Isn't that why he left Williams not Mclaren.
I think it was both. I know Newey wanted to design racing boats didn't he? McLaren didn't let him have a sabatical which can't have helped. I also think he wanted a new challenge and the idea of making a new team challenge McLaren/Ferrari for race wins and titles was a challenge he couldn't turn down.

For the benefit of those that were curious about the red overalls:

This year McLaren (in partnership with Hugo Boss) are running a number of competitions, one for each host country, to design the overalls to be worn by the drivers for that particular race ( http://www.hugoboss.com/uk/en/emag/mcLaren/index.php#/configurator )

Seems that the red suits, are the design that won the chinese competition..

Newey left Williams and McLaren for the same reasons afaik.

And yeah I remember something about a sabatical and designing boats too.

Apparently the competitions are to mark 30 years of 'partnership' between McLaren and Hugo Boss. I say partnership as I don't think McLaren actually have any sponsors; they just have 'partners'. ;)

From the BBC F1 qually pics gallery:
Jenson Button wears fetching red overalls to honour a 30-year deal between McLaren and their clothing sponsor. Red is a colour considered lucky in China, but can it bring Button good fortune in Shanghai?
