Chromecast now available in the UK!

Just curious as I know Chromecast can be you used to stream your Chrome Browser to your TV...fair enough however if you've logged onto say Sky Go or Bt Sport through a Chrome browser and then select the Chromecast option through your brower will this then allow you to stream what you're watching on either service?

Whilst I realise the apps don't support this maybe this works as a work around? At least I hope so :p

Yeah you just need to fullscreen the flash video. If it uses silverlight I think it doesn't work though.

Also when I say you need to fullscreen the video apparently in a beta they have made it so you don't even need to fullscreen the video so you can keep using chrome and have the video on basically a second monitor :D

Cheers mate, unfortunately both Sky Go and Bt Sport make use of Silverlight so if your correct it unfortunately won't work which is quite disappointing :(

I've been using one for a week now and this is a bit of a mixed bag..

I think as more apps get casting support, it'll keep getting better..

However, I was disappointed with PLEX a little, it just always wants to transcode (no matter if I re-encode in the exact formats that the Chromecast is supposed to support) and I can only stream 1 item at a time since two items transcoding is too much for the server, not to mention it slows down everything else the server is doing when transcoding..

Still, since my TV isn't a SMART one, this is actually quite good for casting stuff from the PC/Phone, so I'll deffo be keeping it plugged in.

This looks like it might solve a problem my father has at the moment. Three weeks ago he had Infinity installed, so gets BT sports for free at the moment. The downside is that his TV is not internet enabled. Obviously he can get the football on his laptop, would a Chromecast allow him to watch the footie on his tv full screen ?

Someone found chromecast references in the BT app but this was at the same time they found them in the iPlayer app. I've not heard of anything since then.

Apparently there is code in the app but it's not visible to end users. So we will have to wait and see whether it gets enabled in a future release.

It was working although kept buffering on the first day of Chromecasts release. Since then, white screens with errors.

Not a lot however you can reset/restart or factory reset the device from the app. It's mainly there for configuration only though.

LocalCast sometimes requires me to connect to the Chromecast via the Chromecast app first before it takes over.

MKV containing DTS tracks won't play audio, not supported. Gah

Yeah it's pretty lame, not so much an issue if you have a Samsung TV as they work just fine with MKV and DTS, just annoying that Chromecast doesn't support it.

I'm not that impressed by the video streaming on chromecaast, I get better results streaming to my SmartTV directly.

From today's BTsport app update, yes.

I have £30 Amazon voucher but can't seem to find a reason to get this or not.

We do have a blu-ray player that we are sending back to Panasonic due to it having an issue which we used a lot for Iplayer/Netflix as it was simple press of a button loading.

We then have xbox 360 to fall back on for using iplayer/netflix/youtube.

We were thinking of maybe going to Amazon prime (instant video) but no idea if this is able to work on this.

Amazon wont work on Chromecast as they are two competing companies but for Netflix, iplayer and youtube its great.

ohhh does I player work yet ?, google music works very well on it.

What's the best app to stream mp4 and mkv files from my tablet (no plex! I don't have a media server!) to the chromecast?

AllCast can send media from your device to the device. Not sure if it will work but give it a try. Would imagine you'll need a decent signal on both devices too.
