Chromecast now available in the UK!

Anyone who orders a Chromecast before 15th July, you can redeem £4.99 from here: https://cast.google.com/chromecast/offers/

It needs to be used before that date and it seems to be only for movies.

Link is not working for me but reading the comments from here seems to show it also works if you bought it from other places, such as Currys.

EDIT: Link fixed, the link Google gave on their chromecast page was typed wrong...

Can confirm it works bought from elsewhere too. I got mine almost a month ago from Amazon and came across this offer yesterday. £5 credit redeemed to my google account with no hassle. It looks to be valid against any purchase also, not just movie rentals, so is actually of value.

do you have to be linked to the chromecast to redeem the offer?

Yup, make sure you have the chromecast extention installed on Chrome, the webpage will then ask you to connect to it to check if you're eligible.

Interesting, then I may just buy Allcast premium then!

Streams local/cloud content on your device, such as photos, music, videos, etc. It's also compatible to other services such as Apple TV, Xbox, etc. The free version has a 1 minute viewing limit, but the premium version is unlimited.

EDIT: Actually reading the comments it seems recent updates made it quite buggy. Guess I'll refrain from buying it and stick with LocalCast for now. That works very well but no cloud support :(.

Bought myself one of these yesterday, had a quick play about and all seems great. I was using the free version of Allcast to view my Google+ photos, was going to buy the full version but think I'll wait until they sort the issues out.

Only problem I've come across so far is, we went to the gf family and thought be a great idea to use CC to show everyone photos on the TV. Plugged it in and set it up but when it tried to connect to their wifi it couldn't do it. Both my M8 and her iPhone can connect fine, but the CC wouldn't and I didn't want to mess about with their router settings. In the end my gf connected to the CC itself and cast her pics but I couldn't.

Just wondering if anyone has had issues connecting to routers or wifi and if you've got any ideas why it wouldn't connect? Other than that can see it having great potential, and can confirm the £5 play credit works :)

Got my £4.99 play credit, cheers for that, with the £5 that Amazon knocked off on a mother's day promo it's only cost £20 for my CC.

Are they using 5ghz wifi? Sadly chromecast doesn't support it. It's one thing people hate the most so I would imagine a hardware revision will add support.

Ah, that explains why it won't connect to the 5ghz wifi. Wonder what they were thinking not supporting it.

Just spent all evening trying to get 2 of these to play ball with my laptop. Both worked fine with Android.

Turns out Ad-Muncher stops Chrome casting to the device. Solution is as follows -

1. Right Click on the Ad Muncher icon ( the Cow )
2. Click "Configure"
3. Click the "Options" tab
4. On the left side, at the bottom, look for the section named "Intranet Content"
5. Check "Disable filtering on intranet connections"
6. I closed Ad Muncher
7. I closed all Google Chrome sessions
8. Start Ad Muncher
9. Launch Google Chrome
10. Click the "Google cast" extension and it should find your Chromecast ( make sure your TV is on unless you have your Chromecast plugged into the AC outlet instead)
