Chromecast

There are two apps for Plex. One is free but needs Plex pass which you have. The other is a paid app that doesnt need Plex pass. It's a one off purchase so if you ditch your pass then you need to pay for the other app. After then it's free to use.

In regards to iPlayer I was talking about pushing programmes from your PC's web browser iPlayer rather than the iPlayer app found in iOS and Android.

Plex just updated the Android app.

thanks for that, will keep my plex pass as other family members connect to my server and use the android app.

@rogan
to add to my reply above, you can cast from plex via chrome on your laptop if wanted.

Received mine yesterday, so far only used it for netflix and youtube.

Tried a number of other apps and they seem very buggy, it's easier to stream video to my Samsung TV than to Chromecast.

I've been experimenting with using the Chromecast for a cheap distributed audio system. I'm mainly concerned with getting some audio into the Garden and bathroom at the moment, so I'm not really looking at synchronised music around the whole house.

Using the Chromecast plugged into a HDMI to VGA adapter + Audio splitter, then using the audio out to go into some speakers I've managed to use Google Music to stream to a pair of standalone speakers.

For the garden, I'm planning on using a rechargeable USB battery pack to power the speakers and Chromecast which should last for around 12 hours if my testing is correct.

In the bathroom I want to ultimately fit some speakers in the roof, but I'll need to look at some type of small AMP to do this with I imagine, so theres some more research to do there.

This one requires no extra power and works great....http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18533768

Media browser can now stream to the chromecast as well, although i do like it via plex looks very neat on the ipad. No need for the plex client on the HTPC anymore. Anyone know of a good way to stream videos from an iphone/ipad straight to the chromecast?

Just ordered myself a chromecast and a wireless extender while I was at it as i plan on using it upstairs.

Anyway quick question, as i understand it to play stuff on it i have to send things to it from my mobile device or PC. I've just downloaded the Netflix app but the cast icon isn't there? will it appear once I'm powered on and set up or did i download the wrong version app?

Also any tips/tricks for apps etc?

Thanks

Yeah you have to set up chromecast before the button will show up.

Just to mention you don't actually send items from your phone, it more acts like a remote control and tells the Chromecast where to start playing from. So your Netflix app tells the Netflix app on the Chromecast what video to play and the Chromecast does all the work from there.

Interesting, had no idea it worked like that! Makes more sense why screen mirroring hasn't been introduced yet.
