Chromecast

Does the Sky box drop power on the USB port when it's in standby? I do the same with a PVR but it looses power when in standby.

Good question. I believe it was switched on when i was using it yesterday, I will try whilst on standby tonight.

Picked up a Chromecast last week after stuggling for a few weeks to be able to justify one - seeing as I already have an xbox360 for my netflix/unblockUS, sky for normal tv catchup and a wdtv live for films from usb hdd and shared folder on pc.
Seriously considdering getting shot of the xbox and even the wdtv now as I don't game on the xbox (only pc) and have been watching stuff on netflix instead of being norty (and Putlocker going down the pan...).
Either way the chromecast has been a great bit of kit so far using it with my motoG.

I'm having trouble casting Netflix and iPlayer. They both run fine on android tablet, ipad and iphone, but when I try to cast the request times out  Was working fine a few days ago :( Youtube works fine.

Any ideas anyone? I tried a hard reset of the Chromecast.

got one of these last night - its great !

only thing that let me down was redbull tv doesn't chromecast live events yet :( have to default back to chome tab casting on the redbull website

Got one last week from Currys. Was looking good but trying to play 1080p video off my laptop to it was no go and stop start with buffering.

Took it back and put my pi back in place, wifi no ethernet working perfectly

Returned mine yesterday and got a Roku 3 instead.

I think it has a lot of potential but at the min its just a bit buggy (apps closing on my phone / tablet and losing media player controls) and the codec support for Plex is too limited resulting in all my media needing heavy transcoding.

I'll probably get one again in the future, just can't justify having two devices at the min.

So there's a "Cast Screen" option in the display setting on both my Nexus 5 and 7, but neither work with the Chromecast (one picks it up but fails, the other doesn't even pick it up). Is this is feature that's not yet working?

I've thought of a possible use for this

I often like to play music from YouTube on avr.
This means I need the TV on and htpc

I'm thinking chrome cast would allow me to just have the avr on and music?

Just really wanting to make sure I can use it with just the avr on. I don't see why not. Just the picture won't go anywhere.

Yes it works fine,

Have one upstairs in the bedroom tv and one downstairs in my avr works fine with no issues.

Very tidy.
Seeing as most of my music is played from YouTube or is mirrored on htpc and phone

Can it take multiple phone inputs? Or does it just pair with one device at a time?

Muliple devices can control it. I mistakenly turned off Plex in the bedroom that my missus was watching when I was meant to control Netflix on my PS3.

BTW if you want to see what happens and have a PS3 you can control Netflix and YouTube from their smartphone apps.
