Cities Skylines 2 is Official!

I haven't upgraded my pc for like 5/6 years now, not since having kids.
I'm still on a 6700k and 1080 but I think this game will make me do an upgrade.. at least the gfx card... if I can get the purchase approved by the better half

There’s been a lot of discussion about how hard this game is to run. With worth reminding ourselves how hard the original game was to run which was released 8 years ago now.

I had an overclocked 5820k, 16gb ram and a 980ti which was about as high end as you can get for the time and the game very much bogged down once the population got up.

I don’t think we are seeing anything new here. We’ve gone though a period of gaming constrained by rubbish consoles, what we are seeing now is developers up their requirements because there is so much more head room within said consoles. It’s not just a cities skylines thing, it’s across many games.

@b0rn2sk8 - I take your point, but, iirc, the comments made by certain content creators, once their NDA's have lifted, is a little discouraging. Perhaps it will not be too bad, understanding that many of those creators have ran the game at 1080p, as suggested / instructed. The CO of CO, iirc, even admitted that there are performance issues that still need addressing.
I did not have much in the way of performance issues, per se, at the time of release of CS. That is with the vanilla game and nine tiles only, no mods or assets at launch time. Here with CS2 there could well be performance issues with lower population numbers than we would expect.
Still it will be with us soon and hopefully it should not be as bad as some have made out that it could be.
I also appreciate that comparisons are being made to CS that has matured over the years, fully patched, lots of DLC's and umpteen mods and assets. We just need to give it time, both CO and Paradox are known for long term support and patches here.........................oh and endless DLC's. LOL

I think this is a good point, I remember it bogging down very quickly on the PC I had at the time.
If I recall it was also pretty poor on PS4/Xbox One although that might have been the controls as well..... I certainly haven't bought it on the Switch, a console with a mobile phone CPU in it from the same year CS1 released!

I've bought loads of stuff from Paradox over the years, the support put into things like CS and Hearts of Iron is incredible

Indeed, they, Paradox, have been one of the better publishers / Devs etc that are making games.
Whilst the DLC's are plentiful, they are not compulsory and can be bought on sale, altho I often have paid full price, gladly.
Along with years of DLC's they also release years worth of patches and often free content.

I have little concern about pre-ordering this game when I did in June. If it is a little wonky on release them they'll resolve it over time.
They have probably built much longevity into this one, considering the original CS.

I don't want to think about how much I've spent on content for Hearts of Iron 3 and 4 over the years!

Its been an expensive month gaming wise so far, Football Manager 2024 purchased, Metal Gear Solid Collection... I guess whats an extra £28 for CS2.... I spend more than that on a few pints

Just comfort yourself at the pleasure you have had. If I count up the playing hours of some of my games, what I have spent balances out cheap enough...
