City Fibre

It’s a City Fibre policy apparently - multiple install visits, all said the same thing.

Had a manager at Kelly Comms escalate it internally and today they came back with a hard no.

Called Giganet and they said if City Fibre say no it’s a no

So the order has been cancelled :(
What if you drill your own hole?

Have you tried lying to them? Say you've found a brick wall and then when the engineer arrives point them at an existing hole.
@MrRockliffe you should have a blockwork sole plate at the underside of the timber frame they could drill through. There's a possibility it could be below your floor level, though there definitely should be one there. I'd be very surprised to see a timber frame built directly off the foundations.

Thought about it but it isn't worth the potential hassle of them kicking up a fuss if they found out. I've already got FTTP with BT, and they've just offered me a 24 month renewal at £28 a month :-)

Have you had many engineers come to inspect? Sorry if you’ve said somewhere else before!

Reason being, I had issues where certain engineers were insistent that I needed a tree surgeon to prune the tree by the telegraph pole, I persevered with getting different engineers to come take a look and eventually was rectified without any need for a tree surgeon. Really seems to depend on who you get at the time.
I can’t speak for CF, but having had to deal with non standard problem installs previously within the industry, usually a customer who had themselves already drilled through a problem wall could usually have cable fed through it as long as the issue wasn’t due to the construction, eg asbestos. Similar with heights work or lofts, cable would be dropped off and the customer signed to state that any cable fault was down to them, not the company. Obviously I don’t know the details of your issue other than what you have listed, but it may be worth clarifying the issue and offering the solution?

What's the consensus on best providers ATM?
Looking to switch from virgin shortly.

Also are there any restrictions on how far away from the pavement they will go when adding the connection - currently ours loops around to the back of the house.

Its going to depend on where you live.

VM here are the only ultrafast provider. But of course VM are also very much a postcode lottery with local node congestion.

If available a CF reseller (full speed up.down, should be stable latency no jitter).
Otherwise if available either Openreach FTTP or VM.
Then after that DSL providers.

We had the pavement by our house dug up during covid by Cityfibre, but it hasn't materialised into Cityfibre availability for us yet (Chester).

However, have noted they are now digging along one of the main routes into the centre of Chester so not sure if they have done the branches and now there is a main pipe they need to connect back to the center so maybe we are moving closer...

So been with city fibre a couple of months now and they are already jacking up the price by £4 a month! How is this practice allowed? I signed a 24 month contract for £30 a month. Criminal if you ask me.
