Civilization VI

One thing, for the love of all that's good. DON'T BE BROKEN AT LAUNCH.

To be honest I cant bring myself to reorder or buy at launch, I did with Civ 5 and I waited a bit with BE and both wouldn't work on my system at install and it was a pretty mainstream system spec even if I do say so myself.

Otherwise known as Civilization Revolution.

Personally Im not too fussed over visuals, gameplay is key with games like Civ.

They bother me :(. These screen shots just make me want to reinstall CIV2 or something and remember how these games are supposed to look.

I want my empire building games to have at least a realistic ish look, not a cartoony look.

It makes me think they want to emulate the art styles of thing like clash of clans etc. :( what I wouldnt give for a modern reworking of Alpha Centauri with a realistic graphocs style + terraforming :(

This, really.

"Woah, that Clash of Clans is pretty popular!" Lets adopt their color pallet to appeal to a larger audience."

It is never a good idea to buy Civ games at launch incredibly buggy and unfinished you only have to look at all the expansion packs that come out afterwards or should I say bug fixing patches that they charge for. Well this Civ 6 looks like yet again a graphic re-skin mod. It really is about time they produced a new version of Civ.

Obviously core gameplay is key to a game like Civ but in this day and age you can't say graphics aren't important to a lot of people. This new style is really not to my taste and looks like they're trying to appeal to a larger, younger audience with the aforementioned 'Clash of Clans' style design when I'd be surprised if anybody under the age of 16 has ever played Civ?

Ok so i've played civ since i was 14 on my Amiga.... I consider myself qualified to have a decent opinion on the subject.

Civ 5 for me was so far the best incarnation of the game because it revolutionised the game with Hexs and non stacking units. Remember the days of 75+ units stacks attacking your city ? I do and whilst it was sadly fun at the time now its ridiculous.

Im feeling the combined ops/arms units will be much like civ 3s Heroic leader army building unit. Not a bad thing at all in my opinion, unless they are ludicrously overpowering.

it took 2 expansions to make civ 5 excellent and my favourite but somehow they so massively missed the target with BE, how are they gonna improve in civ 6... They have to nail the characters so hard this time.

I really dunno what they are gonna pull out of the hat in civ 6 so much that will make it better than civ 5 +GK and BNW... Which should be the starting point of quality for civ 6. I don't think they can do it ..

But i am looking forward to being proved wrong.

Wonders having to be placed on tiles is a good shout, its very easy to wonder spam against the AI and cruise the rest of the game, and this should stop that.

I never found this to be honest. If you're able to keep spamming wonders all the while keeping up with land army and expansion, then you're probably playing on too low a difficulty. Up it a bit and you'll find that they beat you to a lot of wonders, and then in turn having those wonder bonuses makes the AI a good challenge.

I dont really have a problem with them appealing to a younger audience, just so long as they dont dumb the game down in order to do so. I can live with a more cartoony look but I dont want to play a more simplistic version of Civ.

Whilst it doesn't necessarily mean they're going to dumb it down, that is my fear.

Based on what I've read it doesn't sound like they are dumbing it down, let's hope that's the case. I don't like the graphic style but as long as the game is decent.

Have you read much about the game? Just genuinely surprised at calling it a simple re-skin if you have.

Really looking forwards to this. I'm cautiously optimistic about the graphics - just look at the quality of that sea! - as it's some months from launch and I think there'll be another layer of lighting before the final release.

Price of milk at Tesco - £1

Price of milk from Barry "Farmer robber" Smith - 40p

Well...thats a no brainer.

Of course its cheaper, its their whole business model.

Not the best analogy though, as those are two different products. Same sort of thing maybe, but made in 2 different ways, by 2 different companies. Whereas a game is the same no matter who you buy it from

I think they're saying it's the same product, milk, but that Barry may not have obtained the milk he is selling legally.
