Civilization VI

This game is screwed up to death. :(

I done the map hack and made it as big as Civ 5, I put one civ and me, so just two civs on the whole map.

Guess what? I met America on turn 10!

The game is bad, I am proper civ veteran from 1 until 6, 6 is messed up badly.

Far to much aggression, civs spawn far to close, workers are about as useful as a chocolate teapot.

I might pop back into the game in about 2 years as its a mess in its current state.

Lol.

So I was right in my suspicions? I'm happy to tell you that I said way back before this was released that I just don't see huge maps and with 100s of units battling it out on screen because it's a bloody tablet game.

And it's no secret I was ready to hate this game the moment it was released, but I honestly thought I would get a few games out of it. I manged 30 minutes and I will never go back to it. I am surprised just how dreadful it is, but I'm literally stunned given the amount of people that think it's is actually good.

Really, I thought you were seasoned Civ veterans, but most of you act like you've just gravitated from the Wii and picked up your first Civ game.

Different folks, different opinions.

I've been playing Civ since the start of the series, I'm one of the few who actually played Civ 1 when it was released, rather than people who came to the series in Civ3 or Civ4. Personally I'm very much enjoying Civ 6. I've increased the map size to 180x96 and in the current multiplayer game that I have going (180 x 96 , Marathon) , the missus and I are having great fun. I didnt meet my first enemy civ until about turn 80 and only have that civ (England) within about 50 tiles of me (Fractal map). Increasing the map size has made all the difference as I found the default maps too small. Not a problem in itself as I found much of Civ5 was more in line with my tastes by using the Community Balance mod anyway.

I can see myself easily putting in the sorts of hours that I did with Civ5 (several hundred hours played) with civ6 on multiplayer. I'm very happy with that value for money, mind you I'm just not the sort of person who is ready to hate in advance, anything in life, cant see the point of being like that, but as I said at the start, different folks.

I know how much you wanted it to be, but no, not really. It's a very good game and a worthy addition to the series. It does have some flaws in terms of bugs and exploits, the AI needs work, and it has some really questionable game design decisions such as the the free envoy I posted about above, but I will fully expecting both at launch. As long as it wasn't as bad as Civ 5 was at launch, or how bad Civ BE currently is then I'd be happy and that is the case. Got around 60 hours in the game so far; in comparison to Civ BE where I've never made it over 45 since it came out.

In the end there are only a couple of things about the game I don't like and I can't see them changing as they are core game mechanics so I'll either learn to live with those or wait for mods; the rest are quite obviously bugs or just things they can have ironed out before the first expansion comes out.

I'm finding this game a little frustrating. I'm approaching the end of my first game and it seems like combat is just difficult. If its a coastal city quids in my battleships will pummel it, but if its an inland city it's like wading through treacle to progress the campaign. I'm also a bit bored, it seems like most turns I'm not doing much and the time each turn takes to progress is slow. Loads of semi-useless messages come up that don't really help me and I never feel like I have a good handle on what's going on.

Now I played Civ 1 on the Amiga and every version since I'm no newbie but for everything I like about the re-imagining of this game I'm finding something frustrating. The civapedia is no use I'm may have to load with the tutorial for my next game because things I think should be obvious like if a spy is in a city I should be able to view it are not clear or the information is presented so horribly I can't use it.

I want this game to be good I just can't work out what's wrong with it.

You need siege units for taking cities. I haven't focused much on aircraft but bombers will likely be strong too. Then all you need are a couple of soldiers to go in and take the city.

Few mods for people to have a look at that aren't overhauls/major changes to gameplay:

CQUI: A modified user interface, has extra information and simplifies other parts.
YnAMP: A map pack. Be careful setting the map size too high though as it can murder the turn times.
Restart Button: Adds a "Restart Game" option to the top of the escape menu.

Have you tried several times to see if you get the same result, or are you basing your conclusion on this one time?

I've been playing on small and some games I've met another Civ quickly, other games I've gone quite a lot of turns before doing so.

Man, I can't believe I'm such an idiot. Anyway, but to another fun game of Civ 6 :)
