It was a wartime thing introduced to help farmers with increased daylight hours but it was never revoked. It takes me a good week to readjust spend most of the week being an hour out with everything it plays havok with the old bodyclock even managed to oversleep for work at least once and even turned up to the supermarket an hour before they opened in the past (sunday)

The funny thing is when you see the farmers now, their lights are so bright they could be used for a local football ground.

Some people like BST, me for instance, some don’t, we’re all entitled to an opinion, but what’s with the “stupid” American date formats?
It’s not stupid, it’s just the way that they write them, if I see 3/23/22 I know that they are talking about the 23rd of March 1922, it’s hardly rocket science.
You may as well say the Portuguese are stupid for calling Lisbon Lisboa, or the Poles for calling Warsaw Warszawa.

Well, we seem to be backwards with everything. Look at our voltage and plug sockets compared to everyone else.

Well, I'm all for it as it means I can go climbing outdoors after work for a decent number of hours. Win.

Same. Last year I went kayaking and got back at 11pm in mid summer.

Get so many after work hours for Outdoor stuff with BST over a summer.

And before you know it you have to maintain a list of all this crap.
Yeah this is exactly where my POV is, it just creates a bunch of confusion especially when not everyone does it at the same time.
Oh well, have to deal with it for now.

Like right now EST time is only 4hrs behind us, vs the normal 5hrs for these two weeks where America has moved their clocks but ours are yet to move.

Should have 1 time right a cross the world and get rid of time zones as well.

So you just adjust as the year goes around if need be. Interesting concept that I heard about on SYSK would certainly say a tone of hassle globally. We as inventors of the time get to stick to the time it is now and others can just adjust and adapt shouldn’t take too long.

Nothing is great about GMT when you go to work dark and come home dark. That becomes depressing.

I hate hot weather, stupidly bright blinding sun etc..

also bees, flies, moths, ants all the annoying things are around....

lets go for a nice summers walk, how romantic breathing in these clouds of midgies that hover at face height under the trees , ahh yes glorious :p

what's that sticky sugary food? here comes a wasp

I'd rather live somewhere cold all year round.

I've already been on amazon and ordered one of those magnetic mosquito nets for the balcony door and some mosquito nets for the windows. something has gotta keep the flies, wasps and bees out or I will go insane

There's a good case right there to keep your face masks :D

Bright blinding sunlight? Stop staring at the sun. That's what sunglasses are for. An infestation of wasps isn't usually until July/August. Midgies is an evening thing and they're usually near bushes and trees. Bees are just doing their thing, looking for stuff to make honey. They don't know it's a popsicle. Ants? Can't say I've ever suffered that problem. Caravans?

okay that's fair. But doable. Also you could change the time of day you do your things?

The reason is I need light. So extra hours in evening is valuable. With a drive to beach, setting up kayak, kayaking, packing up you want a good 3 hours of light at least.

So BST adds 1 just when it's useful as days are getting long it basically gives enough to actually use it

Can't really do kayaking in evenings after work until its BST.
Going GMT all year would reduce that even more.

(thread title made more accurate :D)

Stupid, stupid BST.

We'll say goodbye to GMT for the summer, we'll be back to idiots quoting GMT when they don't understand the difference, we'll be back to confusion and madness.

We invented time, we invented Greenwich, we invented longitude and we invented clocks*. It's only right that we should be on proper GMT all year round.

BST, you can do one. You're not wanted here.

*some of this may not be entirely factual
I agree the clocks should go forward 2 hours and not only one stupid hour.

What I meant is can't you do it in the morning?

Kayaking sounds fun though! Wished I lived closer to the sea!

I'm not really a morning person. It would mess up my sleep. I'd have to leave the house at 5am.

Unfortunately mornings and evenings seem equally lit when you work 9-5ish.
Going to try and move my hours back 8-4 and see if it flies.

Still don't get why America moves their clocks forward/back two weeks before us, just creates all sorts of confusion.
If everyone's is adamant to keep DST at least we should all do it at the same time

Confusing?
How about Hawaii and Arizona, the only two states that don’t observe daylight saving time?
Other U.S. territories that don’t switch are American Samoa, Guam, Northern Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

It makes no difference when you have young kids. You are knackered all the time anyway and also don't have the energy to do things in the evenings

Yeah that's fair. I'm up at 530 most days and get my gym session/run done in the morning. Or go to work early and come home early. 50/50.

I guess for kayaking if you're not a morning person afternoon makes more sense.

Depending on your role most companies seem fairly flexible with time, but I guess it does depend how senior you are or how flexible work is.

Enjoy your kayaking!
