COD Black Ops looks pretty good on PC

I'm having more fun playing with the computer than playing the game I think, anybody managed to login as JFK or Nixon yet?

If you can't find the OCUK server, just bring down console and 'connect 173.199.76.230:3074'. Easy.

Edit: Hadn't noticed twoblacklines saying they disabled connect, thats idiotic.

I have basically fixed mine. It still happens rarely, but its so much better after the following steps:

  • Disable steam in game
  • Disable steam cloud (this just syncs all your game configurations across multiple computers)
  • Navigate to "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\call of duty black ops\players" and open up config_mp in notepad.
  • Set ""seta r_multiGpu to 0 if you have one gfx card, or 1 if you have SLI/Crossfire.
  • Set "seta r_multithreaded_device" to 1 if you have a multi core CPU (If you don't you shouldn't be playing this game)
  • In game type /cl_maxpackets 100

These are all the steps I took to fix it. It could be just one of them, but I havn't narrowed it down yet.

Letme know how you get it. Having total nerdgasms over my lucky tomahawk and ballistic knife kills, but theatre mode keeps not saving some of my games :(

I tried that just now in a few maps online. It might have made things a bit better but I can't tell if it was placebo effect. It certainly wasn't 100% smooth like MW2 is, but I don't think it paused/froze any more. But I'm not certain, I'd need to try it some more.
 
How are you all joining the OcUK server? I've not found it in the browser over the past two days and /connect doesn't work!

I meant set /snaps 30

taken from steam forums

*SNAPS :: This is possibly the most important setting for getting a good connection.
Snaps setting determines how many updates you recieve from the server. 20 to 30 for
56K connects in quake series 40 for high speed internet im sure the same for cod. (30 is fine).

Aha, found an article With JFK and Nixons passwords for the computer, going to go and read the e-mails shortly, it's a very cool thing to be put into the game, could spend a couple of hours finding things.

You can also play Zork, awesome!

After reading all the negative posts yesterday i was in two minds with to just send the game back to tesco. Glad i didn't while not in the same league as Bad Company 2 it's quite good, more of the same but that's OK.

all the hype with this game and it's such a let down already.

i think ill wait until it gets sorted out and the price drops before i get this i think.

Yeah I just changed it in the config file. Not sure if it's made a difference but can't hurt. I expect making the game fully smooth is out of our hands, we would need everyone else on the server to make the same config changes AND for the server side config to be altered too, as per the link you posted. Hopefully common sense will prevail and Activision will okay this change, or I fear Black Ops has a shortlived future ahead of it.
 
Right, I never read through the full thread but I got BO on steam (download), now when I try to play MW2 (disk) on the same steam account it keeps crashing...anyone else or just a random fault?

I have MW2 which I bought on disc (not that it makes any difference once installed) and both games are working happily side by side. What sort of crashing do you mean?

(Was just playing MW2 in fact, and it's such a relief for the eyes after the un-smoothness of Black Ops)

yeah i have played. but popular game like this why the hell they releases with many bugs!!
anyway I've just completed the campaign. luck me didn't pay a penny for this game :) you know what I mean ;)

think im just gonna leave this game alone for a few weeks for a patch, its just plays terribly on my computer, i cba with it
 
I think part of the problem is most players are using maxpackets 30 :( and the servers are setup with low max rate :( not to mention the official ranked ones are probably all crammed loads to a server.
 
well, if it helps, my pc has died after installing this and played it 3 times, lol. waiting on new psu :(

altho what i played on a q6600, 6gb ram, 1920x1080 and 6870 was some stutter in sp, but mp was in region of pings of 50 and only rubberbanded once.
