COD Black Ops looks pretty good on PC

The latest patch has helped the game a lot (for me at least) but theres one thing they still have not fixed...

...THE STUPID 20ft KNIFE LUNGE!!!:mad::mad:

If they fixed that, made the scopes a little easier to use and brought out the mod tools that were promised at launch then i would happily let cod4 rip but untill then it's just a public game for me and the clan :(

That is crazy

I feel rather sad. I like playing against Bots offline (Simply because I hate people who Bunny Hope etc online) and I hit level 50 Yesterday lol

Sorry to be pedantic, but you can't 'Bunny Hop' in Black Ops. Jumping to avoid being shot is a core part of competitive CoD play, but I can understand it ticks the casual player off.

I have to agree with AeoNGriM, hoping is a core part of COD. It always has been since COD2 when the PRO LANs started to take place. TBH players used to hop in the earlier COD games aswell.

Camping & Tubeing IMO is worse than a bunnyhop, i used to play COD4 HC, in lots of leagues, where no bunnyhops were allowed, since BLOPS i have been let of the leash, and will now hop to avoid being shot, or get the advantage over another player, it is IMO a part of the game, unfortunately like camping and tubeing.

Pointless getting a bit humpy over hopping IMO. Try it :P

Side note I started MW2 again and actually prefer BO to it. That said COD4 will always remain my favourite, if only I could find where I put the disc...

I'd go back to COD4 in a heartbeat if they ported back some of the perks/killstreaks, weapons, etc. from MW2/BO i.e. being able to hack enemy claymores is just too much fun and I can't play COD4 any more because it feels too empty to me without those features.

I'm one of the people who loves stuff like the chopper gunner - tho IMO you should be able to kill the chopper gunner with a well aimed headshot as well as shoot the chopper down as it would make it far more balanced (and a great use for CB pro and a sniper rifle).

Hopping may be 'a part of the game' but it doesn't stop it being cheap.

How is it cheap, the JUMP key has been there since since the first MOHAA, its always been part of FPS gaming, i dont see how its cheap.

Camping in corners waiting for someone to walk/run by is cheap, tubing a spawn is cheap, camping an area that overlooks a spawn is cheap.

No it isn't. It's fair game. I'm not going to meekly stand still and let you mow me down, I'mma jump my ass outta the way and empty my clip in retaliation. Believing that everyone should play according to some sort of gentlemans code of conduct/honour in a hugely competitive game such as Black Ops = unrealisticexpectations.jpg

It's part of what seperates the casual from the competitive players. Which is why the game has so many gadgets/killstreaks to bridge the skill gap between the less and more skilled in random public servers. One group has their claymores and camping with long range rifles, the other has rushing with rapid fire smg's and the awesome power of the spacebar (summed up for brevity, I'm aware that it's not as simple as this, but it can be described as such). This is part of the reason I don't play the CoD series much anymore, if it was any easier for people to get kills we'd be issued with nukes.......oh wait, nvm ;)

The jumping or hopping tends to minimize the damage you recieve, as the hail of bullets you let off at someones head / chest will if anything hit the legs or feet resulting in less damage. I am still playing cod4 and practically every team we play against has springboots on whenever you engage them :) and while its not as bad in Blops as it is in cod4 it still as the same effect.

+1

Anyone getting some immediate lag upon entering any game on this recently? My dad says he doesn't have any so I'm guessing it might be ATI/AMD driver related? Notice it the most as I frame lag when I move for about 5 seconds and have frame lag when zooming in also for a good 30 seconds or so :S

^This, every time. But I don't think it's driver related as I was on the 11.4a previews for ages, this lag at start of round is only recent. I have no answer for it.

Interesting! Never noticed this with anything before 11.3 personally but to be fair I upgraded to them around 2 1/2 weeks ago then to 11.4 yesterday. Really annoying issue though as I get absolutely slaughtered a the start of every game due to it :S

Glad I'm not the only one though!

I understand what you're both saying and your comments are totally reasonable, but the distinction you're drawing between tubing and camping and bunny-hopping is almost laughable. Like as if the first two are pariah tactics and the latter is somehow venerable. They are all 'part of the game', camping especially is as old as OFPS themselves. In my opinion they are all cheap, and I cannot see a distinction between the three as they are all 'easymode'. If I meet someone on a map I'd like to think the fastest to react and fire would win, not the guy who jumps around like he has St. Vitas' Dance.

At least forms of camping and the use of a grenade launcher are tactics combatants would use in real-life. CoD isn't real life, but you catch my drift.

You're right when you say that expecting gentlemanly conduct is unreasonable. There are some of us out there that try to play in a more 'noble' fashion (if you can call it that). But then, I'm one of those weirdo players that prefer using guns like F2000 because they are more of a challenge. :)

Would be nice if all the Devs in FPS games like COD, MOHA, HOMEFRONT etc made it that if you bunny hop, the % chance of your gun jamming goes up 80%.

I have no problems with campers, i either flush em out or avoid them and let someone else do the dirty work afterall thats whats tubes/grenades are for.

Now camping spawns and tubing spawns should be a crime punishable by fingers broken.

To be honest, I don't know why devs keep adding these annoying facets to FPS games anyway. Not many people actually like tubing and so on. I've been considering starting a thread where everyone can add their most loved and hated things from COD, BF et al. It might lead to the best online FPS ever!*

*Yeah, unlikely!

Yeah, I wish that it was so too. I played the CoD series competitively for almost 8 years, so I've had to learn to do the whole flying through the air deal, or else I lose. If you take all the nade spam, claymores and tubing out of the equation, then all you're left with is two guys and their keyboard skills, so at least in terms of competitive play it is equal in terms of ability, opportunity and skill. In these circumstances it's the quickest reaction that wins.

Having said that, public servers can be fairly rage inducing since you have to deal with all the perks/equipment/killstreaks but it's relatively easy to adjust your style of play and keep an eye out for the campers/tubers etc. It's all part of the game, as you've said, but after so many poor installments in the series (WaW, MW2, BlOps) I'm burned out on CoD. That's why I've switched to playing tactical realism with Arma II. I'm playing with the chaps at www.havoc-company.com and I'm really enjoying myself these past few months.

Also, worst "Portal 2" Thread EVAR!

I definitely sympathise with that: when you play that competitively you have to do whatever it takes. Besides everyone else probably does it, too! Did you have any kind of technique with it, or was it just a jump?

why ?

it has been unable to bunny jump since cod 1 1.2 patch  yet people still call it this which is almost rage inducing :p

you get stunned speed loss if you try to bunny hop (bunny hop is to hop more than once). where as before the patch people used to hop zig zag :D

what most people call bunny hoping is just a normal jump and shooting which is as easy to hit as normal or prone if you expect it.

i got banned off a cod waw server last night for jump scoping a admin :( so low . apparently i was bunny hopping and not allowed :)

public servers full of whine whores who dont know what it means but play on decent servers or matches scrims leagues ladders and no one batters a eyelid
