Thats becuase cod4 keept it simples.

Magnificant game in my opinion. Every COD since has been a step back.

Iv said it before and Il say it again, the only reason why MW2 sold so well, was becuase people thought the where buying the improved succesor to COD4, when infact it was just a dumbed down garbage version of the same game..

And BLOPS is just continuing on from MW2's mistakes... I could see that even before the game was released.
 
Personally i think after the UO addon for cod1 the series went downhill, cod2 was pretty much a console game and introduced the wolversine health system, not to mention the sheer amount of grenade spamming was insane. Cod4 introduced the most retarded idea ever of killstreaks adding to other killstreaks so the "chopper of pwn" raped quite a few maps and the guy that called it in usually had other killstreaks ready by the time the chopper handed most of the server its ass.

Can't say im a fan of the instakill knife bs either, where is it written that melee attacks MUST be 1 hit kills? Seems to be the current trend for shooters for whatever reason, and adding in a retarded lunge feature for melee that makes you teleport through bullets is just the icing on the cake.

Original cod imo was by far the best, relied more on you doing the kills and not cheesy callin attacks.

Personally I like the extra killstreaks and perks, the odd lame one aside, with a good level of skill its perfectly possible to counter killstreaks and perks effectively.

100% this. I have not enjoyed a cod game as much as I did the united offensive expansion. You could beat people with binoculars ffs.
 
CoD4 was great, but the grenade spam ruined a superb game for me.

I've only just started playing Black Ops, as my previous dual core didnt like the game at all. My new system however plays the game great, and I really like it. It seems like a much better game than MW2 (not necessarily the biggest challenge of the world) but I would suggest that at the moment I like it more than CoD4.

Whilst I liked the maps in first strike a lot (instantly became all my new favourite maps as they were generally longer range and required more aiming and less spraying) I still dislike that it came so late and cost extra. I know I'll inevitably get the next DLC and from the trailer the maps looks great again however this will mean another £12-15 sadface :(

Side note I started MW2 again and actually prefer BO to it. That said COD4 will always remain my favourite, if only I could find where I put the disc...
 
Well after playing it today, I honestly dont see why people slate it so much. I had fun playing it. The only issue I had was the fact that if I hit strafe, ADS, crouch in some combination and tried to fire it would start activating another button on my mouse... had to disable that button completely :S
Im also not impressed with the dlc prices...
 
Also, with the spec in my sig but the cpu at 3.3Ghz im running the game at max settings 1920x1200 with 2x AA. I get some odd slow crawls for a couple of seconds on some maps but then it seems to disappear.
 
I still sometimes enjoy this game but the DLC was disappointing anyway. Save your cash m8, stock maps are way better. I would like this game a lot better if folk would just be nicer to each other. Has this rage factor continued on from MW2? I gave up on MW2 early days so wouldn't know for sure, but I logged over 1600 hours in WaW and only bumped into a handful of obnoxious folk tbh.

PC Gamer, pfft. Would much rather listen to Zoo magazine who gave it 9/10 at launch iirc :D
