COD Black Ops looks pretty good on PC

Interesting! Never noticed this with anything before 11.3 personally but to be fair I upgraded to them around 2 1/2 weeks ago then to 11.4 yesterday. Really annoying issue though as I get absolutely slaughtered a the start of every game due to it :S

Glad I'm not the only one though!

One thing that is different ... I can't remember if this lag started before or after is that I now run everything from 2 x 1TB in RAID0, before I was running Steam and the game from a separate drive in AHCI mode. The RAID set-up benchmarks better as you would expect, nevertheless, I have changed things so just thought I'd better mention this.

Left perfmon and CCC running on 2nd monitor while in-game. This start of round lag, same whether shader warmer is on or off (this was a fix for lag way back iyrc) and there is no more CPU or GPU usage during this time. One thing I did spot, if I join a started game, I get no lag! It's only after being in from the very start. I asked others on Ventrilo, hehe, they said ffs Jeff, just turn the damn lagometer off, you'll enjoy it much more ... they have a point :D

The whining on COD always makes me chuckle: Bunny hoping (technically it's not), diving, tubes, knife noob, camper etc etc, its all in the game, if you don't like it don't play, or you could see it as a challenge and over come it.

On another note, yeah, i have noticed the start of map performance issues are back (only about 10 seconds for me thankfully), this was in the game shortly after release for a while, got better now it's back. But hey at least i can connect to servers again, game was pretty much unplayable for 2 months.

Just built a new PC with the rest of the new stuff turning up tomorrow so I'll get it installed and see if its any better with the new kit installed. Gonna install steam on 2x 500gb hdds in raid 0 as my OS is currently installed on a 64gb crucial M4 SSD which is awesome. Looking forward to seeing if the new hardware solves that silly lag :S

GL James :)

BTW, I get zero lag if server has <12 players joining. I have just noticed this. I have forwarded ports for hosting, maybe my router is getting bombarded ... I'll shut 'em down and try ... tomorrow like, bedtime now ;)

I definitely sympathise with that: when you play that competitively you have to do whatever it takes. Besides everyone else probably does it, too! Did you have any kind of technique with it, or was it just a jump?

I too have played competitevly hence why i jump/bunny to gain an advantage etc in certain circumstances.

Just to attempt to answer your question, sometimes the situation dictates how you jump, weather the jump is to gain an advantage or surprise, depends if you have tagged them, or been tagged yourself. Its not like i would hop the entire map, some situations would dictate a hop, IE if i had to get to a certain position, knowing that a spam/stop nade would enter that certain area or the opposition would pre-fire a certain run route, I would potentially hop to get where i needed too for the team.

Its like gaining lots of little advantages IE strafe jumping, running against walls (COD4) certain spawns again dictate these circumstances, and strats.

with regards to BLOPs and the tubes/claymores etc, i hadnt come across that type of gameplay for a long while. I much prefer the barebones servers, although those servers seem to be very few on the ground.

I havent been tubed or claymored in years LOL (my previous was MOHAA-->COD4, i didnt play MW2)

I still think its a cheap kill, as i think that anybody can fire a tube or place a claymore, as where a jump kill IMO takes more precision/coordination and skill by using the keys.

However i have got used to the tubes and claymores, but still dislike that style of gameplay.

6 months after release and Black Ops is still my go to game. Not because it's amazing but there is not much else better, Crysis 2 multi is terrible.

Completely agree with this, around a tight corner with someone in a corner of a room, If you jump eight out of ten times you will win the gun fight with a good aim, although walking around that corner will get you kiled nearly every time. This is from personal experience and with a game like Black Ops every kill is vital to your game.

Looks pretty good imo. It's still time to up the game though. They've hardly moved since COD4 (The best SP I've ever played).
