Coffee machines, Tassimo or Nespresso?

The missus bought me a nespresso for xmas. Honestly, everything tasted crap and seemed like frothy instant. Not a patch on a decent filter / aeropress brew.

Needless to say I binned it and it ended up at her office. Good Riddance.

Their own capsules aren't the best. The darker ones are more prefferred by conniseurs and the lighter coloured capsules not.

Try CruKafe capsules or Colonna. It's getting the right capsules for you that seems to be the main issue. The masses have never tasted proper upmarket stuff so they wouldn't know any better.

Nespresso has its place and it's not as bad as a lot of people make it out to be. If your expecting it to match what your used to then only colonna capsules will do that.

Thanks for the heads up on Colonna, I have ordered their taster pack :)

I don't mind the Nespresso stuff if Im honest, it's better than the filter coffees I used to brew.

I use CruKafe. Never used Colonna myself as I think to myself I could have 4 crukafe coffees for the price of one colonna capsule.

I will at some point get a taster pack just to see what the fuss is all about but I currently have a batch of crukafe i'm working through.

The Tassimo capsules are great for people who just want Costa coffee at home. My Bosch machine (T55) is on it's third year and working like a champ.

Coffee connoisseurs with more developed palettes should investigate other options.

I think I'll check those out also when I've done the sample pack.

They also do a sample pack, you may want to try them alongside colonna

48 capsules for £14 (4 different varieties) you can also get 10% off your first order and sign up for their newsletter and they usually send you 20% off vouchers. when i get one of them i tend to buy a 3 month supply which usually does me to their next 20% off voucher.

Thanks, I have ordered the taster pack! Will report back when I've tried a few. I don't usually drink decaf but they sound like I teresting flavours.

Read an article where some aristocrat was given a nespresso by his wife 3 years ago. He liked it so much he then made his own company that supplies 30% of michelin star restaurants with nespresso capsules as well as his wealthy contacts.

he is now going to open up a limited supply to the public at 12 euros (£10) per capsule.

i was more shocked about the fact 30% of michelin star restaurants use nespresso tbh which shows it can't be that bad and obviously it's less faff and much easier in a fast paced environment to take shortcuts like this.

Nespresso = excellent consistent espresso, no mess, easy. I find the comparison to instant by a poster above laughable. I know opinions are opinions but if your nespresso coffee is tasting like instant then something has definitely gone wrong somewhere.

I have both an espresso pump machine and a nespresso. So I'm not biased.

They don't use the same machines or capsules they're much bigger.

In Spain I've seen quite a few cafés etc with commercial Nespresso machines.

I just got a nespresso U milk machine. It comes with a milk frother. Well impressed with it. Turn it on, takes 25 seconds to warm up. Then press a button and it pours an espresso shot to the exact measurement I customized it to on the machine. Whilst all that is going on I have already filled the milk frother and pressed go, so 60 seconds later (about when the coffee finishes) I just take that off and pour it straight on. It honestly takes me about 2 minutes tops and that includes taking the U milker off afterwards and rinsing it out and leaving to dry.

The taste is good. As good as a £3 coffee I can buy in a shop every day? Dunno...it's close. The savings are huge.
I was buying 2 x coffees a day in the city and with a certain place we got significant discount so small coffees were £1. Even then though, that's £40+ a month.

We were gifted the Nespresso machine for Xmas so maths was not important anyway. I have applied for the £75 credit offer thing.

Buy a proper espresso machine, the pods are ridiculously wasteful.

Good to know they've improved things, looks like you can't recycle them with the rest of your normal council stuff but it's better than it was :)

I will still recommended a proper espresso machine.

Mrs pulled a trigger on a Nespresso machine with Aerochino from JL the other day as we had a JL gift card for Christmas.

Going to say my goodbyes to my trusty Tassimmo and welcome my new Nespresso overlord with open arms.

Am I best off getting the lungo drinks if I like a fuller (as in quantity) cup of coffee? Anyone recommend some decent, not ridiculously expensive, glass see-through cups for the Nespresso too?

nespresso are taking back your pods for recycling however nobody knows how many actually get recycled :o :(
however reading from a report not sure if it's true or not the least wasteful way to drink coffee is sadly instant coffee

taken from here: https://www.theguardian.com/sustain...parency-recycling-coffee-pods-values-aluminum

also not sure how competitors that provide nespresso capsules handle their recycling, i guess the plastic ones can't be recycled

Your machine should qualify for either £35 or £75 worth of vouchers from the Nespresso store. See the john Lewis store page for how to claim, it only takes a day or two. You'll get the £75 in 3 £25 blocks of credit then. Nespresso sell some glassware too.

Personally I tend to use espresso shots but two at a time as I like a stronger long drink.

Bit of trial and error and you'll find what suits you :)
