*** Coming soon *** custom built laptops from OcUK

I sent a webnote about my order and apparently they don't have the processors in stock for some strange reason and that's quite annoying. What you think the chances are of them coming in to stock early next week, my laptop being built and then shipping so that I receive it in the Channel Islands by Thursday. I think they're slim to say the least.

has any one opened one up yet i would love to see in side and see what the chances of up grading at later date would be for example i would take the cd drive out put 2 hdd's in also if the graphics card stuck to the mobo or can it up upgraded?

also how much free room is there for adding extra bits in side?

I opened mine up. There is a big removable panel on the bottom that allows access to:
CPU
GPU
HD
Ram
Wireless
Bluetooth
Turbomem slot
3g slot
What do you mean by room? are talking modding or adding more components?

Ninja2000 - Is there Turbo memory installed, or is it something we can add later ?

My order has just moved into the Warehouse queue - Can't wait. This will be my first laptop

i am speaking 2 start with upgrades in time to come eg if i get the laptop it will be to replace a desktop gamming computer as i dont have the space for it anymore so would like a laptop that i can take the graphics out and stick a new one in and so on

also any chance of some more pics some one and if any one can post a pic or 2 of it open so we who are still sitting on the bench can have a look inside :D

edit-

also any one got pics of power brick and bits so i can see what i would have 2 carry about :D

edit2-

just seen is the cpu removable?

basically how much is upgradeable ?

i'd have assumed that the fact they can give you various options for cpu's/harddrive ram etc in different combinations hints that ram/cpu/harddrive and various add-on cards are upgradeable. I kinda wish ocuk would have had cheaper barebone laptops without the cpu/ram/hardrive etc. just the laptop chassis with motherboard and screen with the power adapter, then a choice of 2 batteries. Infact what is the situation with upgrading the battery? 4 cell's doesnt sound like a lot of power for working off the battery.

Is there any chance of a 17" laptop with the 9800m gts? - The GTX is just too expensive! I would prefer the 17" screen to the 15.4" on the smaller laptop.

Alternatively, is there a possibility of a 1920 x 1200 upgrade for the 15.4" laptop?

i think give them some more time and they will add more stuff and i guess if you email then u can prob get just the bits that u want i dont know but it never hurts to ask

and yer whats the battery life like on them then?

That's the case with most notebook sellers.. you can buy different combination's of e.g. cpus, but it does not mean it makes it easy to upgrade. You can choose what you put in the OcUK laptop... so why do you want to buy the things like cpus separately which also might end up costing more....

...But on the other hand that's what we love doing with desktops, but they are of course more flexible :p

if i can get one and in a year or what ever upgrade bits like cpu and gfx just like i do with my desktop then i will buy one as i will really have found something to replace my desktop :D

Right im about to order, but what is the powerbrick like? I also wanted to know about the warranty as in is the company any good if anything did go wrong if people have heard about them etc.

Was thinking about purchasing this instead of going with a Dell unit?

Would the processor be man enough for some gaming and are the graphics cards good enough for COD4 and other modern games? Will be using it for general web and music other then that

Already did that a few weeks ago when the trial started :D

Are they up to the job with games if needed?

I am not to sure on that one, im going for the Ultima Mobile as that can cope with even Crysis so should be able to play most games medium/high. I looked at the one you listed and the Dell MX1530 but decided to add a couple of £100 to make it last longer as they are pretty hard to upgrade bar the bog standard ram/hard drives etc.

i am really tempted to sell my gaming desktop and getting a laptop for games but dont know am still waiting till i here more from people that have them also for some more pics to be posted

I sold my desktop and got the Ultima Mobile. Don't regret it one bit, fantastic machine. I have no complaints, I needed the space and mobility with the ability for some gaming, perfect choice. :)

Pics were posted a page or so ago.

Matt i've asked a few times about the power brick and whos the warranty with etc? If you've got the time could you let me know? These are what i need to know before i hit the buy button now ;).

I'm not sure who the warranty is with, I imagine it's RTB and ocuk will replace anything that's faulty. Not 100% though. The laptop chassis is made by Clevo, a very good manufacturer so there shouldn't be any concerns there.

As for the powerbrick, here's a photo (pencil so you can guage the size, lol). I'm quite curious why you're interested in it, aren't most the same size?

Thanks mate, that's exactly what i was after. Well some laptops have powerbricks which are like half the size of the laptop itself and i want this laptop to carry around with me.

That's my order going through now, thanks again mate.
