Confirmed: Windows Blue Will Be Free, to Be Called 8.1

thanks gareth - out of the three links on there 2 are 6.5gb and one is only 3 - I'm assuming that cus the first two include both 64bit and 32bit yeah?

Trying this now...
Will update once i get anywhere..

I will also share the above mega.nz link once I've got it..

==== FOUND A FIX ====

1. Place and rename the MSU file in an easily accessible place, e.g. C:\8preview\preview.msu
2. open command prompt in administrator mode.
3. Type: Expand –F:* c:\8preview\preview.msu C:\8preview\
4. Type: DISM.exe /Online /Add-Package /PackagePath:c:\8preview\Windows8-RT-KB2849636-x64.cab

Replace the "x64.cab" on the end of step 4 with -x86.cab" for 32-bit versions and "-arm.cab" for RT versions.

Your text will be corrupted in the Windows 8 store for the 8.1 download page on restart, but the Windows 8.1 preview should download once the servers become less overloaded.

DONE!

Well it lets me know the preview is available and then when I try it I get a
The Windows 8.1 Preview isn't available right now. Please try again later.

Presumably due to server load, will keep trying...

I've been getting that all day, but then on the other hand my Desktop downloaded and install 8.1 preview pretty much instantly, so I'm not so sure it's server load personally for Surface RT's in the UK.

Well given its not really meant to be in the UK perhaps its being blocked at the US end?

I've got the iso fro the x64 version that was linked above though now so at least I can bang a VM up and have a play..

I think if your base OS is EN-GB you're not going to be able to use the store update for the time being (although ISO versions work).

There's some talk of MS expanding the language coverage over the next few days.

If anyone has a US Surface RT, they can diskpart to unhide the recovery partition and upload the install.wim file to a hosting site. That way you can copy it to a USB stick and recover by holding down POWER + VOL DOWN

RIGHT!!!

Might be hope for UK RT owners

Luckily I have the install.wim from the recovery partition. I have just created a script to remove the en-UK language pack and replace it with the US one at source!

Unfortunately I'm at work doing this through logme in. Can't test until tonight

Well just tried to update my existing Win8 VM and my key doesnt work, tried it as a fresh install, still no key love and you cant skip the key as per standard win8 installs..
