Confirmed: Windows Blue Will Be Free, to Be Called 8.1

Well this sucks. Updating has killed my Asus Xonar D1 for some reason, must be down to driver incompatibilities.

As well as that, whenever I try and open an application or click the desktop icon in the start menu, there's a delay of about 10-15 seconds before anything happens, except for if I click a windows 8 "app" which is instant.

Windows 8.1 Pro - SecureBoot isn't configured correctly Build 9600

All required fields are ticked for this, it doesnt get rid of the water mark. Right P***** me off it has. I shall be emailing microsoft in the morning and asking them why yet again they have decided to release something that doesnt work accorss the board and is as such in my opinion a crap unfinished release.

It may be quicker but dear god that message and inability to fix it has royally miffed me.

OcUK use parts similar to my own in builds on a daily basis, as such I cannot recommend 8.1 nor 8 (as it will upgrade to it). Snotty email imminent.

my win 8 pro from msdn isnt shwoing any updates in store :( boo!

edit: just checked, it popped up! :D

also @ Monserrat, thats the same stand as my samsung 46inch tv im using, so smart looking :D

You have installed the GA Rollup 1 updates yes?

KB2894179, KB2883200, and KB2894029. All installed and doing the grand sum of.. FA.

Very unimpressed as how something that should just work doesnt. Ease of use if key with an OS, this would drive most buying apple.

edit: macbook air is out.. oh it works! Why am I not surprised? Windows /FAIL.

At least windows is working just a water mark, try telling that too us in the ios7 thread, even after two updates.
Not good, but large releases will have issues as theres so many hardware configurations. Its how fast they solve it. Ios cant even say that with only a dozen or so hardware configurations.

Several things you can try.

Is secure boot enabled in bios?

1. Press the Windows and X keys together on your keyboard while running Windows 8.1 Preview.
2. Click on the Windows PowerShell (Admin) option in the menu that has popped up.
3. There may be a User Account Control prompt, if it asks for a password, type in your user account password. And if it asks for a confirmation, click Yes.
4. Now, a PowerShell window will open up with a prompt at PS C:\Windows\System32, type in the following commands at that prompt one by one and hit Enter after typing in each command. I have provided one command in one line:

cd\

Confirm-SecureBootUEFI

Now, depending on your BIOS/UEFI settings, you may get three outputs - True, False or Cmdlet not supported on this platform. .

If its false you probably need to re-enter the secure code from the manufacturer.

I figured out how to solve the problem today:
I navigated to Edit Group Policy (via search) -> Administrative Templates -> All Settings ->
double clicked "use enhanced boot configuration data validation profile", which was not configured and hit "enable".
After a restart, the watermark was gone.

Some more info on ms, like this thread.

Not here, maybe its staggered, I have all of the 8 ones but no 8.1 :/
Weirdly I can go into the keys section and find keys for it but no ISO's lol

You're not missing anything - downloads for me start off at 3mb/sec but soon drop down to 50k/sec and then eventually stop, so they must be taking a hammering :D

update Steelseries

Yep, mine is hanging again. Might be my Steel series keyboard as well. I'm going to try and force it back to 8 and leave it for a few days.

unplugged the mouse ,still hangs, just looked on Steelseries site and the drivers for 8.1 kill it and the drivers for 8 do not work on 8.1 they say at Steelseries,

been reading more,it is the Steelseries drivers ,keyboard and mouse, headsets not working right in win 8.1 also they are stopping win 8 from updating to win 8.1 and theres no fix yet

Done all that, its just no good. I think the issue is what we all know anyway, windows 8 is just awful and window 7 should be the OS to use. Its poor that I have to say it but its true.. far less issues and a start button thats actually worth having.

If you just shut down whilst it is downloading it will start from where it left off when you turn it back on.
This is what I am doing.

From the time that posted is zipped along then said I had to restart, a bit strange but looks to be installing now.

Im uninstalling it and putting win8 back on. 8.1 is broke. It has nothing to do with my Gugabyte board or any ASRock or ASUS or MSI products others have the same issue with. The fact the issue is so widely seen tells me that once again Microsoft cant do anything right. Morons. Simple.
Hopefully they will see this and have a look into it... Can but only hope.
