Confirmed: Windows Blue Will Be Free, to Be Called 8.1

Ok I have done a full clean install of 8.1 using the guide a couple of pages back. It all went swimmingly however I am faced with a couple of issues I was hoping someone could explain to me please.

Firstly I now have a Watermark on the desktop that reads 'Windows 8.1 Pro, SecureBoot isn't configured correctly, Build 9600'. This was not there when I initially just upgraded from 8 to 8.1 via the store.

Secondly I now have in my BIOS a UEFI version of my SSD. I am sure this never used to be there or am I imagining it?

I have managed to get rid of the watermark by setting the Secureboot option to Custom in BIOS and setting it to default key (whatever it means) and then setting it back to Standard.
 
one tiny thing that is so small it's almost not worth mentioning, but would be nice to see changed one day.

i often use the "lists" i think ms calls them for the programs on my taskbar, and to view them i left click down, drag up and then left click up, then click what i want. this can be done with the right click too, however my finger is on left click and it's what i'm used to

the start button has it's own "list", however this can only be accessed with a right click, and it's taking some getting used to to remember why my normal way isn't working. they should add the left and drag up option too
 
What the hell, so I just upgraded from windows 8 to 8.1 using an MS licensing ISO and now its saying windows isnt activated and wont accept the existing windows 8 MAK key?

Ring them up with your code from your machine that it gives you.
Then input it and it will give you a working code. You don't even need to speak to anyone.

With which code from my machine? its displaying a different one to what I initially used and only the last 5 digits are displayed

christ why did I bother

Right click on my computer then properties.
Then it's in the activate part. There are only a few options in there.

Open an elevated command prompt and type "slui 4".. It should then open/start the phone activation process.
 
Upgraded my laptop then my main rig. Both updated pretty quickly. Have noticed a couple of issues.

I used to use the sky drive desktop program. 8.1 just stops this completely. It's all integrated directly into the os. Great except the handy fetch feature that let's you sync folders across multiple pcs but not the cloud storage is gone. I'm going to have to find a replacement for this

My USB wifi adaptor isn't as stable as it was on 8.

Library's is switched off by default in 8.1. Easy to switch back on but why switch it off by default ?

8.1 requires a new MAK key, existing 8 keys are not valid. M$ are doing this to ensure you still have Software Assurance as 8.1 is only free for retail consumers.
 
I had to uninstall the Steelseries engine also for my sensei Mlg edition and kept my on board profiles
Steelseries download page have advised the engine is not compatible with 8.1 :(

ok. I spend all last night trying to sort this.

I reinstalled win8.1 and didn't install anything but the issue was still happening. then I went back to win8 but the issue was still happening. then I checked my laptop which uses wireless and that is fine so then I connected a lan cable from my superhub 2 to my laptop and the issue was happening on that at the same time has it's happening on the main pc. I then put the SH2 in modem mode and it was fine no issue.

any ideas?
