Conroe now available from OcUK!

Are the Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro CPU any good? I was originally just going to stick with stock cooling, but as its only £18 I thought I might as well if its any good.

alright , the bad axe has 4 ports on the ICH7R and another 4 blue colored on a SIL3114 controller. If you do the hardmod , which is a piece of cake tbh, all the options appear in your bios.

BUT if your gonna use a conroe , i think that the chip unlocks the bios WITHOUT the mod

check in XS about the mod.

heres a pic, taken just mins ago from my bad axe

and for those who might experience dodgy bios behaviour, i had some issues too. i bought a new battery and they were completely gone away.

dunno maybe my battery or yours could be faulty :(

i think you guys will be shocked how hot these things run.

On or around default volts it runs pretty much cool. But when clocked up to 3.4+ it does get quite hot. Well this is just from us guys here using them.
The clock to heat ratio is poor at least for the ES samples we have.

@ 3.6Ghz on the aquagate load was over 70 degrees  (1.4v)

ive just sold my 6600 hopefully going for something more exciting :D

so a conroe unlocks options that are hidden away if you have an older chip in there?

how much is locked away? i mean is clocking an impossibility?

The Tower is HUGE to say the least and I also read a post on XS saying that it only probably offers a 2-3 degrees lower cpu temp than the Thermaltake BT. Also the poster made an interesting point that most people had the mobo outside of the case! So you need a large case to fit it. Also the Tower does not cool components around the cpu socket well, whereas the BT does such as the mcch or something? Anyway I'm gonna go for the Thermaltake :)

I wanted that tuniq tower, but shame cant see it anyware in uk.... that one even beats the likes of the mamoth coolers like the tower even.

yep

* overclocking is possible , you can pump up the FSB up to 50% X FSB of your chip

for example

a 640 has 200 fsb , bad axe multiplies this number by 50% up and it can give you then 300 fsb. in my case the 640 has a multi of 16X300=4800MHZ

but unlocking the bios you have full Voltage control of the CPU and FSB override which is an option to set the starter fsb at

133
200
266
333

and then clocks the processor by the percentage to get you up to a maximum 500fsb

for example i have fsb override at 266 clocked by 4% =276 which is 4400 mhz (sweetspot)

hope that helped

ta for the info :)

looks like you are saying that the hardmod is only needed if you *dont* have a conroe? sorry about the questions, i just want to confirm. the hardmod is simply not something i would feel comfortable doing tbh

the hardmode is necessary for all non conroe cpus. For conroe though people say it is not needed, but it has to be confirmed when the retail chips arrive

Note: Some people have reported that this mod is not needed with B0 stepping Conroe ES CPUs on the newer rev 304 MB. Do the mod if you need to, otherwise this gains nothing.

My ES conroe step 5 needed the hardmod to unlock the bios. Dont know about retails though.

I cant wait for tomorrow to see if those people that say that they are getting their chips on the 14th actually get them :)

told ya it had 8 SATA ports :)

Quick questions, what is missing with the bad axe OEMs that OcUK sell (ie why they arent retail). Also, is the main problem with the DFI board that it limits overclocking to an extent. Would it effect me running a 6600 on air? Or will this only affect those on water/phase?

thanks for any replies, still trying to finalise the spec

The only difference between the OEM and retail version of Intel's Bad Axe motherboard is that the retail one comes in a nice shiney box

Hey Stelly, check out the conroe page on OCUK. It now says 4 - 7 days for the EE version. Not long now dude. :p
