'Contact lost' with Malaysia Airlines plane

Egypt Air 990 (pilot suicide) broke up before hitting the water due to high angle of approach and supersonic speed of descent.

I'm fairly certain that at the speed the plane would have been traveling, hitting the sea would have been the same as hitting solid ground, and it would have smashed to many many pieces.

Yeah and all the people inside would get pancaked between the seats

This is what I was thinking. What are the odds that if the plane hit the water at a certain angle it would just sink straight down like a javelin?

None. The wings wouldn't survive the impact and would simply sheer off. There is so much flex in a plane wing it's really quite frightening. That and the AoA of the fuselage hitting the water perfectly to "dive" straight through would not be the same AoA for the wings.

It's a nice theory. If we take if further, doesn't the plane effectively become a submarine, meaning everyone could be alive, 60m down...

If you read the article it was picked up by Malaysian Air Force primary radar at Butterworth.

Strange how no messages from the pilot though? Could it have been that instant that he didnt have time to contact air control? Or, was he to blame for whatever has happened to the plane etc?

Either the pilot deliberately turned off the comms or a/the hijacker(s) did it.

But why is this info just coming out now? The planes transponder would have identified it to the MAF and someone there would have thought, "hang on, what's going on here", not "oh yeah, I remember seeing that 4 days ago"

I read that the phones are ringing, so that must mean the plane is on the ground somewhere. I don't think they'd be getting a signal under water, or in the air.

I am not usually one for CT's but it does seem that things just don't add up. Maybe in the frantic search information is not getting relayed or reported properly but I would expect that they would try to do so to keep relatives informed.
