'Contact lost' with Malaysia Airlines plane

i'm afraid of fying on a bus in the 30'000ft in the air? yea cos i can't get out when i Need to.

the whole air "industry" has no value for juman life imo, oh it's "rare"

plane is going down, i have an ejection handle, eject swim time thankyou.

To be fair that is amusing. When a plane hits water it's going to sink like a rock.

Depends on the nature of the crash, but if they manage a mostly intact controlled ditch into water they will usually take awhile to go under. If you go in hard doesn't make much odds if its land or water.

"Fear of flying cannot be rationalised. It's a phobia."

I can accept that there was a fear of flying in the 60s/70s/80s when only rich people did it but nowadays when it costs peanuts to fly anywhere, I'm not buying that anymore.

it's like being a passenger in a ww1 biplane, you could'nt pay me enough to play russian roulete in a passenger airlinner. i guess i'm afraid of unsafe flying?

This might be some kind of joke but I don't get it. If you're suggesting that poor people have to overcome their fear of flying because they're desperate that's ridiculous.

let's say there's been an incident on your flight, and for some reason you awake and you're in freefall heading towards the earth. wouldn't it be great to remember what the inflight instructions for this situation was. pull handle to right chest to release parachute.

No, because a slow death in the middle of the Atlantic isn't my cup of tea.

If I awake in a bus hurtling towards a cliff or to a lorry. I remember the in bus instructions to pull the injector seat handle.

The whole I can get off at any time noises, is that nonsense. Good getting off any transport at the right time. The only time you can get off at will, is when nothings going wring, when it does go wrong its to late to get off and you are very much stuck on it. Be it a car, bus, train, plane or even walking down the pavement unable to get out the way of a crashing car.

Chance of dying on a plane is extremely low, just because lots of people die when they do crash, doesn't change the fact they are much safer than other forms of transport, or other things people do every day.

Not looking good though for the poor souls on this flight though.

There are tens of 1000s of flights everyday. Very rare to hear of a plane crash nowadays. You sound as though you are more at risk of mortality from your shoe laces. Hope you survive.

Aviation accidents happen fairly often actually, as plane travel becomes more popular the number of deaths remains fairly constant despite increased safety.

In 2012 there were 794 deaths over 119 accidents recorded by ACRO, the statistics for the past 10 years are pretty similar.

Lol, like the Hudson ditching??

To be fair that is the only recorded incident in history where that has happened. Other incidents of planes landing on water have resulted in their complete destruction.

yeah i get that, it's just there does'mt seem to be any real lifeboats in the air where we need some kind of lifeboat for when 300 people are going to die

As there just isn't anything available, as technology advances maybe something will get suitable.

Just like parachutes for light planes, however much harder to get them working and within weight limit for something much much larger and traveling much faster.

but why not develope an airliner that has ejector seats? why not really value your customers saftey? rather than accect the unacceptlble loss that they do?
