Cooking with Daveyboy - Live Crab

I would put more faith in your science if it actually proved anything other than that the "brain" is a processing unit which is more of a move, feed, swim system.

The links you both posted are about the size of this processing unit not the affect in the increased size (i.e. affect this has on memory recall, advantages/disadvantages).

KaHn

I don't recall trying to define what the function of a brain is, I merely stated that a lobster has one.

Then why all the hoo har..

.......? =/

Not everyone WANTS to go out of their way to do it....Did you not read that part?

Not everyone wants to go out killing things, go back 100 years then yes, you had to do it to some extent....Thing's change, people realised they could make money out of killing and selling for themselves, so they did.

And it's brought us here.

So you would rather get it done in mass style and more than likely have no idea what happens. I would rather know where my meat comes from and have no illusions about what happens.

Good thread. yet again shows how many hippies are on this forum.. They wouldn't lasta month fending for themselfs.

Not a good thread at all. The pan was far too small and wtf was banging the crab against the worktop all about?

If you're going to do it, do it properly and drop the bugger into a pan that's big enough for it to be immersed immediately not some namby pamby saucepan that's designed for boiling eggs or something.

As for your hippies comment and not being able to fend for oneself, all I can say is hahahaha :)

I think the problem comes with the definition, a certian type of cell does not equal a brain to me.

KaHn
Well firstly, it isn't a cell, its a organ. Secondly, is there any particular reason why your "definition" goes against the entire scientific community?

You don't have to be self-aware or even have feelings of pleasure, pain or temperature to have a brain. If you were to say that 'a lobster doesn't feel things as we do' then I wouldn't have had a problem with what you said.

I feel this is a rather pedantic argument :p

Mass style? I'd rather buy meat already killed, and ready to cook.

Nothing wrong with that.

That depends if you know where it comes from and if you could do it yourself. Only one thing worse than hippies, is people who buy meat in packages knowing they could not even watch the process, let alone do it themselves.

LOL @ the knock the it aat first....

I mean seriously banging a crab on the worktop hahahahahaaha where did you get that plan from?

Put it in the freezer or something instead? Or just put it in a LARGE pan of boiling water.

Other than these minor quibbles, thankyou for going to the trouble of making the thread. The vids made me laugh quite a lot :D

You could have used a bigger saucepan that would fit the whole thing at once, rather than dipping the poor bugger a bit at a time!

But other than that, who cares? Its a crab, not your pet cat.

I'd love to give it a go, love crab, but I can't, I'm allergic to the bloody stuff. :(
