Noctua D14 will beat ECO 240mm too easy on low rpm with a push-pull (viper fans). I ran 2 x 900rpm and top temp around 74C max with 4.2ghz and can be lower to 69C if using 1900rpm x 2. Viper fan is also quiet.
Did you test them side by side out of curiosity. I've never had a D14, but I did test twice at 4.2 with my ECO on 5 runs of Intelburntest which is what I tested my H50 with. The 1st time according to Realtemp GT and E-Leet, my temps spiked to 71 for about 2 seconds. 2nd time round, they spiked to 69, again for just a couple of seconds. The average on all cores though on both runs was about 63-65 degrees. The fans auto adjusted accordingly and stayed between 1200 and 1450 rpm, maybe hit 1500 a couple of times. The H50 regularly stayed in the high 70's and spiked to 79 a couple of times. As far as I'm concerned the ECO 240 is at least 10 degrees better then the H50, the H50 using 2 vipers in push pull, and the ECO using 4 vipers in push pull.
Noisewise the Eco was quieter too compared to the H50 as the viper fans did not have to maintain a high RPM as often as they did with the H50. Ths is an important point in relation to the H70. Some user reports and reviews have said the H70 needs to use the noisy stock fans at full speed to get an appreciable gain on the H50. Using fans at normal rpm only gives moderate gains which for some may mean the H50 to H70 upgrade is worth it. I regret not testing my H70 but I had read these reports about it before my ECO 240 arrived and felt it would be better returning it and hoping the ECO delivered the goods. Besides I nearly smoked my board getting off the H50 backplate.
