• Competitor rules

Please remember that any mention of competitors, hinting at competitors or offering to provide details of competitors will result in an account suspension. The full rules can be found under the 'Terms and Rules' link in the bottom right corner of your screen. Just don't mention competitors in any way, shape or form and you'll be OK.

Core 9000 series

2700X comes with 1 core at 4.3 and doesn't event hit it. I wouldn't call overclock to max. The rest are working at 4ghz or lower.
Well tuned to the max then. Most 2700X reviews state that there is little to benefit from manual overclocking as Precision Boost 2 is set to the optimal level. You can go higher but the performance gain is small versus the power and heat increase. I suspect Intel have taken the same approach with the 9900K.

I'm sure everyone will be happy to see OCUK have increased the 9900K retail boxed to £619.99 :p
They are atrocious. What a way to treat your customers. Honestly laughable. I'm so tempted to start just posting links to competitors and take the ban. Short term buck. Perfect way to ruin a company.

It is disappointing isn't it? I think what irks me the most is the ever so friendly communication, how thankful they are for our custom, the pushing of rating them for retailer of the year stuff etc... then they show exactly how they feel about their customer base and do this every big launch. It's good business sure... we all understand it, and plenty of people are willing to pay these prices... but it's... just cheap, taking advantage. It's a practice that is very easy to dislike and with the way the market for tech is at the moment I almost get the impression they feel the need to do this to maintain their current margins. Money is king.

They have amazing customer support once you've bought from them though, that's the saving grace and why I continue to shop here for many things. I've had instances where their attitude towards customer support and RMA makes the extra expense worth it.

In this case though? This is extreme. I'm one of the potential fools getting a 9900k, but it is a long delayed thank you gift and the gift giver wanted to do everything on the phone easily despite myself offering alternatives. OcUK made that easy for them. If this was entirely my own money and wasn't going to last me 5-6 years (fingers crossed), I'd be going AMD.

Swings and roundabouts. A great company in many many ways. Just the gouging... Still... I'd rather give them money than a lot of others despite this.

Maybe I'm just stupid :D.

As long as people buy them then whatever seems logical is lost.
I don't get the short term argument of "As long as people buy them".

What about people who don't buy them? Or buy elsewhere? Find that they can also buy mice and keyboards and chairs elsewhere and continue buying elsewhere. I.e. a lost customer for life.

Doesn't affect short term sales targets though does it.

True

People will buy a) wherever it's cheapest b) wherever there's stock c) wherever they trust

When it's a new product and/or stock is terrible then only 'b' really matters to many. This isn't the first time this has happened in the world of business and won't be the last. I'm not sure it really affects the loyalty, as the competitors generally follow suit. Even this 9900K is £600 at OCUKs main competitors.

If you want 'a', you're going to have to wait.

Don't hate the players, hate the game.

Retailers should stop blaming the prices on Intel, Its the greedy retailers who are gouging not Intel. What intel want for the i9 is ok imo.

Are people expecting anything other than a slightly faster 8700k with 8 cores? That seems logical. How can it being what it is expected to be not good.

The 9900k will be a 8 core 8086k with soldering. Meaning you'll have a binned chip that runs a bit cooler at 5.0ghz all core than having to de-lid. The impact of those additional cores on thermals will depend how much cooler. If it's a wash meaning that you can a non delid 8086k is the same as a 9900k in thermals then it'll be some interesting reviews.
