Core 9000 series

To be fair I do actually feel sorry for "smaller" suppliers, like Gibbo said because they are the ones along with the consumers that are getting the shaft and copping all the flack whereas it really should be Intel.
As somebody else said although it never happens if people voted with their wallets then debacles like this would happen less often. Intel and Nvidia and let's be honest literally most PC components manufacturers are literally taking the **** the last couple of years with pricing.
I wouldn't call OCUK a smaller supplier.
With a gross revenue of £51.6M in 2017 and gross profit up from £5.6M in 2016 to £6.0M in 2017 they are hardly a small outfit.

Intel sell to disti, disti sells to us and if the disti wishes to charge more they can do so.
Also the 10k on order with Intel/Master disti is nowhere near been fulfilled, so to maintain stock levels we have to buy from grey distribution, which means our stock cost is blended, it is the only way to keep product in stock due to the demand been so crazy.
Is demand actually crazy, or does it only seem crazy relative to the very low stock levels? Just curious. How does it compare to 8700K sales / preorders.

The demand for us is quite insane, but from what I can tell we are the ONLY UK company with physical stock on 9900K so I guess were getting the vast majority of UK orders, but I'd say selling 100+ per day on such a high-end CPU is good stuff.

8700K were selling around 20 per day, but again OcUK is I believe the cheapest stockist in the UK on 8700K, again take note I say in stock, likewise for 8600K, were the cheapest in stock.

Were also the only stockist in UK of 9600K in both retail and oem flavour, were also the cheapest as well.

So things are expensive, but actually we have stock, were also the cheapest with stock on many Intel processors, but maybe that explains why our business is so strong, we also have very competitor AMD pricing and the 2700X is selling at 50 plus units per day which is a new sales record for AMD. :)

Yeah, I know how it works - and I realise that stock is very hard to come by and that prices would be high before it was released, since we had quotes of $580 for the 9900K at the end of September (which I mentioned in this thread) so it was clear to see that the far east grey disti's knew the stock was going to be constrained significantly. Like I said my surprise comes from the fact that your official EU Intel routes are getting you the same high prices, which makes the whole point of official distribution almost defunct.

Like I say first batch was spot on, following batches are $30 more but to keep stock to demand we have to mix with grey stock which can be upto $200 more.

So at what point is it better to just stop paying more and put your hands up and say "we have no stock, sorry"?
Because that's the line you have to draw. I guess you are aware of the damage it does to OCUK's reputation selling at such a higher level than RRP. Do you just keep going? Start selling them at £1000 because thats what the grey market is forcing you to do? or say, no, enough is enough, we are loosing customers here and loosing credibility. Risky one I suspect. It may well be doing the rounds that "hey only OCUK have stock in UK GG". But I can assure you that it is also doing the rounds that "OCUK are ripping the pee with their prices and milking loyal customers heavily". So says PC groups across facebook.

Because Amazon is the largest wholesaler on the planet and has the biggest buying power of any reseller worldwide? Thats why... because they buy direct from Intel and get a better deal than OCUK will get, that is why.

When your the largest marketplace on the planet, you have the largest audience, it stands to reason people wanting to sell their products through you will give you a) priority on shipments of products and b) better deals than anyone else.. because they are able to move much larger volumes of products than anyone else.

Also Amazon logistics are constantly shipping stuff to the UK, so there is already in place a route to get stuff to the UK cheaper. They can afford to swallow some margin as their logistics are already in place to get products here.

Not quite sure how 100% accurate that is, because I have seen many many products cheaper elsewhere than on Amazon.

How about quality of first batch versus grey stock? And comparing to retail.. is there any ? Is it just warranty and box ?? Are they going perform same?
Question for OcUk what is the deadline for ordering and having delivered tomorrow (Saturday) thank you for info

Retail and OEM is identical, the CPU is no different, just retail comes in a box, has a longer warranty and cost a few dollars extra, but we are yet to see or be offered any retail product. I only see retail in stock at one grey disti, they had 5pc, they wanted over £600 exc VAT at which point we refused to take those, expect to see them on ebay around £800-£900.

P.S. Order by 3pm to guarantee next day delivery on items showing in stock.

Gibbo can we expect any response from AMD anytime soon ? ;);) 2800X maybe :p

No all is coming from AMD is some more threadrippers, but not faster ones, just new models to fill the line up.
On Ryzen 2700X is current fastest and will be for remainder of year I believe, at £299 they are a great CPU.

At current intel pricing I don't think AMD need to do anything, as they're half the price for around 15% less performance - if Intel released a chip at the 350 mark with the same performance as 9900k, then I would have expected AMD to come out with a 2800x
