Counter-Strike 2

Totally agree.

CSGO weapons felt/sounded like peashooters.
After years of playing CS 1.6 and then Source. GO just felt wrong.
And full of screaming kids/hackers/toxic excuses for Humans.
I was a source player, and stopped playing in about 2008. Only started playing csgo during lockdown and it's honestly a better game in every single regard. Try faceit. Better yet try faceit premium. Can't promise you won't get toxic players but cheaters are extremely rare.

I've played the game since beta 5.2, and csgo is the only cs game that made me leave the community indefinitely.

The community is toxic and all about ego. I used to be able to have fun even when I was playing semi-seriously, but it just isn't anymore.

Thankfully there are more multiplayer games out there today to choose from than before.

Here's a pro exhibition game they played before the ESL finals at the weekend. It's a good watch, lol at Harry (if you watch any of the pro games and half-know the commentators you'll get it) :p

Uni of Teesside and GB-UK were my CS Source servers back in the day (before I discovered 5v5 competitive).
To be fair, CS is a fairly basic game if not playing competitive. Because I'm getting old (lol) and kinda terrible now compared to the youngsters, I find it really interesting watching the pro games. Watch amazing executes on sites like this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aPRPQObRcbI&t=331s and you can see how far the game has come since 1.6/CSS days. It's a completely different animal in competitive.

Indeed. It's literally military-like precision on the executes.

I started playing CS when it was still CS 1.2 (mid '01) and never updated afterwards until CS 1.6 came out because CS 1.3 came out the day after 9/11 and, as I in the military, we got very busy in the Middle East until post Gulf War 2 (mid '03) which was when CS 1.6 was released and we got about 1/2 a year of "downtime" where I could catch-up with PC gaming. Well, until Afghan started to brew up again.

I never liked CSS initially and hated CS:GO even more but by now I quite like CSS and even CS:GO is starting to appeal to me more but my "old man" eyes & reaction times, now I'm starting to approach 50, means I'll never be "good" at anything other than a quick few rounds with friends.

Doesn't seem much noise about this, too little too late?

It just looks like a graphics overhaul (could say the same for CSS and CSGO tbh) and fancy smoke effects.

So, I'm assuming this just applies to CS:GO?
What do you mean? It’s a new game.

It’s only a closed beta at the moment. Yes, in the main it’s a graphics overhaul (seen as they won’t want to touch the mechanics of the game) but it’s using Valve’s Source 2 engine which I guess provides a lot of improvements and other opportunities.
