Criteria for MM access has changed.

Don't know how feasible this would be, but it might be good if you could allow MM access for people who have bought from OcUK in the past.
Presumably those people then have an account on the main site with a real name and address which could be tied back to their forum profile for trading purposes.
I know there is already some sort of linkage to allow forum posters their free postage.

It would encourage people to purchase for the shop if they haven't already done so and ensure that MM is populated by people who have contributed at least a little to OcUK.

But that still wont stop what has recently happened. Just making it more difficult to get access is the best way to help weed out the scammers who will just find it easier to scam elsewhere.

seems good to me

maybe spot checking could be implamented, so every now and again the odd item must be posted to a don instead of the buyer first

I have barely used it myself but an idea that i had after reading posts from this thread was to also have a review process when a user hits 3 years (or a certain time) and is still active. Even though they had not made 1000 posts, they could still get access to mm at the discretion of site owners. This might take the shift away from trying to post certain amount of comments for reward to just being a normal user for a long time.

although the current change might encourage more lurkers to post in general.

I'm a v long time lurker (over 4 years at least) and recently got an account due to the fact that it's weird that I had never posted and also to sell my mobo on mm. I think that the requirements re a bit much in regards to post count, I can see spamming of **** posts appearing.

Any hence of getting red access to mm?

What has 'recently happened', can someone enlighten me?

I've never quite understood the need to have such randomly number based rules, I don't understand how someone with 1,000 posts is somehow more reliable than 800.

The way I see things, if you buy from someone on the internet in a forum you take a chance and don't buy anything which you're not afraid to loose out on. If you want security, and be covered by laws then buy from a reputable shop.

Either way, I'm 400 posts so best not trust me....

but its not 800 is it!
it went from 250 yes 250, to 1000 - that to me means that I can have just that little bit more faith in someone as they would have a long post history to judge their general attitude and they have made a reasonable effort.

the point is that it should never just be down to 'chance'

and your post count has nothing to do with trusting you, your complete misunderstanding of the reasons this has been put in place makes you sound like an ...

Oh balls. Looks like I'll have to scour other places to pick up second hand buys, as I just do not post enough. Been on here since '07 and have only just gotten past 160 posts :(

Getting a decent secondhand 775 mobo will have to wait...

because even ive been robbed by someone on mm because the item was faulty, this would maybe kurb that

While that's unfortunate it's not necessarily going to stop items being faulty and ultimately there will always be a certain amount of risk to any trading, what is being attempted here is simply to reduce it to a lower level - it cannot and will not be eliminated completely as that's simply not realistic. To completely remove risk would require measures out of all proportion to the benefits gained.

You've also got to consider that the MM team already do a lot to try and deal with trades that go wrong as well as prevent them from going wrong as far as possible, the idea of having items sent to a Don then onwards would add to the workload but offer relatively little extra assurance regarding trading.

So what about people who have been members for quite some time but do not have the time to post decent things on the forum ans still wish to gain access?

What about them? If you want to use the service which is a bonus not a right. Become part of the community. This is exactly what it's trying to stop, is people just joining for the bonuses and not contributing and not being part of the comunity.
