If you want to cut down on MM scamming, setup rules that Paypal gift, bank transfer and all the stupid methods of payment that don't have security are not allowed, and if used then used at own risk.
The fact is people are too trusting to other users, use a payment method that is secure and has comeback if the other participant doesn't come through, job done.
What payment methods would these be? What payment method has security you speak of? Normally people request bank transfer (BT) over paypal to avoid paypal issues. Paypal gift has no come back and paypal have been known to investigate paypal gift payments if they suspect it is to avoid fees (which the majority of people do use exactly for this reason) and normal paypal payment with fees I did not think protected you at all unless it was a transaction made via an ebay purchase.
Just using paypal for private sales I did not think gave any protection. If it does, you have the whole issue of paypal siding with the buyer anyway. So paypal generally is if anything avoided and BT preferred. I do not know of any other payment methods that offer more "security". Someone please enlighten me if there is.
As for the new requirements. Hmm. I'm not sure really. It would be good to be able to submit a request to mods for genuine sellers. Like for example a form to request access which would have to include:
Name: XXXXXXX
OCUK account number (with atleast 3 transactions totalling more than say £50 each all sent to the same address on file): XXXXXXX
Email (linked to above account and verified): XXXXXXX
Ebay user ID (only accounts with 100% feedback, minimum say 50 positive feedback and member for 1 year+) considered with each request: XXXXXXXX
I know the mods do this for free, but with the above atleast they could have a queue of submitted requests and they could activate them having looked into the information provided and just keep the info in a spreadsheet/DB for future. Do you guys think this would be a system realistically worth looking into and that it would filter scammers?
