Doing some testing with a friend.

Both have GTX680s, both have identical autoexec.cfg, both have identical ingame settings. Identical nVidia driver settings.

I run 1920x1080, he runs 1920x1200.

We stand in the same location and stand looking at the same pixel.

I get 85 FPS, he gets 130FPS.......bonkers!

Differences:

I'm on Windows 8 with the 314.09 drivers. i7 2600k @ 4.5GHz
His on Windows 7 with 314.07 drivers. i7 920 @ 4GHz

Not sure either of them can account for a difference of 45FPS.

Edit - Rolling back to 314.07 to see.

Edit 2 - Same FPS on 314.07 as 314.09.

I have +150 core over him also, if he overclocks the same as me he gets a MASSIVE +75FPS over me.

Totally and utterly bizzare performance discrepancies.

Poor Nvidia drivers tbh.

It could depend on the settings, if both of you have any AA on, it will hit you harder than him due to the bigger resolution? Just a guess, as you have almost 250,000 more pixels than him?

I'm on 1920x1080 and get less FPS than him on 1920x1200. He is the one with more pixels and more FPS.

As detailed in the post we have IDENTICAL game settings.

What CPU's Sin? Games now are seriously using newer CPU's optimally and this could account for the difference. I would be surprised at that kind of difference though but having a wild guess.

My 2700k is about 70% usage with both 7970s flat out. It's a total system hog. It loves a fast cpu and uses as much of every core as it can.

Oh yeah, sorry got it mixed up. Could it be windows 7/8 issue? Also, he gets a 40fps increase when overclocking by 150mhz? Something doesn't sound right there. I guess you both have same card/vram?

Just ran crysis 3 on my cards and it ran better than I expected, but quite a lot of slow downs. but ranged from 10-40fps I may have to overclock my CPU again :p

Results with 3 x 7970s @ 1050/1500 with a 3930k running latest Beta 6 driver.

Settings are maxxed out.

Crysis 3, as with Crysis 2 only uses 2 GPUS, the 3rd is not used in either 1080p or 1440p, the driver simply spreads the load evenly between the GPUs at around 60-70%

1080p Results:

FXAA: 40-65fps
8xMSAA: 24-52fps

FPS does not change if i go from 3.2GHZ to 4.3GHZ on the CPU. CPU runs at around 25% to 39%.

I get a mild speed bump on GPU clocks, this game is a rig killer but is not that sensitive to CPU speed, if you have Sandy Bridge E.

I would conclude that unless there is some magic optimisation coming through a patch and some driver updates, we won't see 60fps locked @ 1080p using this generation of cards with maxxed settings.

Going to play with the settings now to see what i need to do in order to hit 120fps @ 1080p.

What happens when you run it at 1920x1080? Maybe there's an FOV difference? I do not own crysis 3 so can not say for sure.

Otherwise it's probably just down to different driver and OS, if all other games run fine.

Must be windows 8. Seems too much of a difference though.

I suppose there's a chance his triple channel RAM is helping. Have you checked your pci-e slot is running at 16x?

This game definitely tests wether you GPU clock is stable i ran the new 3D Mark and Uniengine benchmarks fine on my 24/7 clock of 1172/1563 clock at 1187mv and also play BF3 no problem.
But when it came to this game after about half an hour it froze and gave the AMD display recovery message! Had to up the voltage one notch, but this is the best looking game i have seen.

I expected it to be playable crysis 2 with the DX11 and high texture mods runs ok and Crysis 3 looks no better.

Running 2560x1440 it really lags and there is a lot of very noticeable slowdown. The first level in the Rain is really bad.

I have just installed my 7970 and have it running crossfire with my 7950 and tbh it still at 2560x1440 does not run very well. It's better but not massively.

Crysis 3 looks a lot better than 2

See in his screenshots here, are those 'comparison' screenshots in C2 between:

C2 with DX11 + the updated Crytek HD textures, or are they against just C2 + DX11 vs his HD textures?

I can see truck track tessellation in one of the screenshots, and it looks blurry-okay from Crytek's end, but his HD mod is INSANE! I thought the 'official' Crytek DX11 + HD stuff looked a lot better than what he has on his site!
