*** Cyberpunk 2077 ***

it only really helps in some lighting situations and does cause some other graphics issues like shimmering. Honestly just keep playing with RT unless you have a beast setup and don't mind the issues and performance drop. The game looks great with standard RT

What's the hit on fps with DLSS set to balanced or quality ?
Didn't really look closely. I might have tried balanced but it was bad enough that Path Tracing was clearly a no go on the 3080 - sub 30fps for sure. I get about 10fps with Path Tracing on and DLSS off with the otherwise same base settings as I get ~40 fps or so with Path Tracing and DLSS performance.

I've got a bit obsessed with messing with the path tracing, especially with the mod I linked a few pages back to significantly increase performance.

I think it's superb, and a really unexpected bonus. If you can't tell the difference with path tracing on vs off you're either not really trying / not comparing properly, or you're just being contrary.

At 4k I get 105fps without path tracing, 85fps with it on, although I repeat I really cannot see any difference in graphics quality
Is that with a 4090? I am getting between ~50 and 80 FPS using GeForce NOW's 'RTX 4080' at 4K with DLSS Performance and frame generation. Psycho raytracing often doubles that frame rate.

This is a balanced view of the pros and cons, sometimes it looks much better and other times worse. I've noticed indoor lighting often appears too bright as though they've just used a very high luminance value in the calculations with no nuance.

So I got a 4090 now and....

Frame gen on DLSS manually set to Quality:

Frame gen off, DLSS Quality:

Absolutely nuts, I also played a bit with frame gen and I feel no added input latency, playing with an Endgame XM2we mouse, 1000Hz @ 1000CPI, feels just as instant in game with FG on as with off, Reflex is set to On+Boost btw.

I thought you were RMAing your 3080Ti? Don't ******* tell me they sent you a 4090 replacement?!

Man maths :D
You *******. Messing with path tracing I'm getting horrible seeds of upgradeitis (currently on 3090) that I swore I wouldn't have for this round.

Is DLSS 3 really not that bad then latency wise? Pleeeeease tell me it is.

I'll have a better play this evening but the bit I played earlier I can 100% confirm that there was no input latency observed and I'd be able to notice stuff like that fairly easy if there is latency introduced then it's small enough to not be noticed in Cyberpunk, can't say for other games though as not played anything else yet, will do that this eve too.

I will also play the same with the MX Master 3, that's not a gaming wireless mouse so will be interesting to see if I notice anything there.

For reference I am at 144Hz on a QD-OLED monitor, so any lag or latency etc is pretty telling generally.

Well on GeForce NOW it seems to actually feel more responsive, but I'm not sure cloud gaming is the best test case  .

Played a couple of hours today on my fully complete save for a couple of hours just exploring and looking at the visual changes with PT and wow is all I can say. That central forest area inside the city where there are a lot of hobos and trees etc, that area crippled most GPUs even with RT disabled and with FG and PT on the 4090 with DLSS Quality, I was seeing down to 75fps  Still, very very smooth and if the fps overlay was turned off then I'd never know the framerate had dropped from 120 to 75 lol.

What a remarkable marriage of hardware with software technology we have now to get this level of performance, "fake frames" or not

Lord knows what the fps would be if Frame Gen wasn't enabled lol. Would be interesting to know what the other 40 series cards get in this scene at 3440x1440 and same settings.

I agree with what others said before, that certain scenes are noticeably enhanced from PT, not all, but enough to matter from what i played today:

That's a tough question to answer, because even before PT some scenes would clearly render lower quality until you move a bit closer to textures, maybe this is a thing with using DLSS at 3440x1440 as the internal render res is higher at 4K using DLSS, but most scenes render really nicely and nothing stands out as obviously poor in general.

The bounced rays and denoising effect can be seen when up close to some metal surfaces, especially the Porsche paintwork. This was a thing even on normal RT Psycho, it's just the way the RT engine reacts as you move the camera around, there's a slight lag for the ray tracing to catch up if that makes sense, this still exists with path tracing. Also just like before, some light sources don't activate until you get a bit closer in some scenes, I posted gifs from way back using RT Psycho you might recall where barrels of fire were "off" until you got to a certain distance then all of a sudden they lit up. These quirks remain unchanged as the distance rendering remains the same as before. And as my game is a reinstall, my past mods for LOD etc are all gone so not sure what's what with the latest game update.

I did post another video in the 40 series thread of some PT gameplay though, that was 8 minutes or so of action, I can't recall any quirks in that segment, but it was to highlight in that thread that there are no obvious downfalls of using frame gen and dlss even when moving around quickly.
