I had a quick question regarding this...

I bought the DVD version and installed it. After installing it steam started downloading the single player and multiplayer. Question is, is this normal? Think it only got to about 33% of single player and that was a 2hr download so surely they don't expect to install a 2gb patch or something stupid like that after buying the game on day of release? I started playing it after downloading this 33% of whatever and it seemed to work fine until I completed the ship level...then it locked up my laptop. Will try again today though.

It sounds like you installed steam and registered the game without actually installing the game content from the disc. This would mean that steam will download the files that it needs automatically. When you run the DVD it should first ask to install steam and then ask to install the game (or it will just install the game if you already have steam installed).

Try running the disc again with steam closed and see what happens.

Actually, when I installed the game from the disc, it then proceeded to download both the single player and the multiplayer version from steam. I stopped the single player download and I can still run the game from the installed files from the disc.

Bit silly if you ask me.

Yeh, sounds strange. I would have thought that the whole idea of buying a disc is so that you don't have to download the whole thing through steam

just installed mine,

opened up my steam account automatically, asked me to tie in the serial to my account, which i did.

Its now downloading updates, nothing as big as described above.

Edit scrap that, that was the multiplayer side.

Single player was saying it was 53% downloaded and now is downloading the rest WTF!!!

All i can think of is the fact i had the demo on here, and now its trying to update that to full retail.

I have the Demo installed and Installed DM with SP and MP from the DVD with the Demo still installed and to the best of my knowledge not once did it try and download anything.
Works fine too even with Demo installed and Steam open and closed :)

Yeah I have no idea if its 2gb, that was just an extreme estimate because it took ages to get 33%. I installed the DVD then put my key into steam as required. Bit strange if you ask me.

I uninstalled the demo, maybe that was a bad idea.

Strange, I haven't even typed my CD key in yet, I just cancelled registration.
Maybe thats why I haven't downloaded any additional files from steam?
I'm not complaining anyway as its working great :D

Oh wonderful. Dark Messiah crashes when trying to load level 4.

Good old steam.

Edit: Oh what do you know, looks like the game is a buggy POS:

http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/3921096804/m/1861070694?r=1861070694#1861070694

And I thought only EA released beta software?

Edit 2: And I just want to say, the loading times in this game are atrocious. It takes a few minutes to load the game to the main screen, a few more minutes to load your save, you get a few minutes of action, then you need to load a new area which takes a few minutes... I have fun when I actually get to play, but with the bugs and loading times I really am not impressed. The demo held so much promise too.

Actually, all you have to do is just cancel the Steam downloads if you already installed everything from the disk. It will still get the updates it needs for multiplayer and will play much better if you actually have installed it off the DVD. I have none of the sound "glitches" that people have described, both music and speech are correct. Make sure to verifiy the cache and defragment in Steam as well as your harddrive. I did install both single and multi off of the Collectors disk.

A lot of people are complaining about bugs, and I'm sure they are there, but I have played well into it and have not had even 1 glitch or crash, nothing. It runs well and looks absolutely great at 1920x1200, HDR and max everything. The multiplayer works and doesn't crash and the Limited Edition items are showing up as they are supposed to. The loads are longer than you might like, but my machine loads in about 15 seconds between levels and closer to 30 the first load when you start the game. Nothing that will kill you. Maybe I was just lucky with it or something, but I have been really impressed with it and think that the retard at Gamespot who gave it a 6.7 is just a hater.

Completed the game, tis very good :) There were a few bugs here and there, but no show-stoppers. There's some nice hidden areas to be found, you can have great fun looking around for them all. Killed every cyclops in the game too :)

When you install the game, if you opt to install the MP it'll install to Steam. Steam will then prompt if you want to install SP and/or MP. If you check both, Steam will start downloading the SP automatically. The files you installed from the disc don't transfer unfortunately. I'm going with the SP download since I can play in the future without a disc inserted.

Haven't had any issues with loading, its a little faster than Far Cry's loading time.

WTF? you must have been on this since the minute it was released yes? ;)
Unless it is not very long. :(

Anyway congrats on the completion.

The only "bugs" I can recall is on the docks where the big ship was, one of the big crates had a flashing shadow, and some of the spiders webs has a part of it that flashes also.
definetely not hurting my experience of the game, especially with all details at highest too.

Great game, enjoying it so far, the rooftop chase got the ol' heart pumping :D
I've gone the classic assassin route, stealth/daggers, nothings more satisfying then a well timed backstab.

How does addrenaline work btw, I seemed to have missed that help hint?
There anyway to get a manual with the steam download? :p

From my experience the adrenaline bar gets filled up from attacking/killing and once full you can kill an opponent with one "hit" that usually goes into slow motion as you chop: /an arm off*/a head off*/a leg off*/them in half*/them up*. :D

* = delete as appropriate.

Played the game over a day now and it crashed a couple of times on me.
After playing Oblivion I found this game a bit too linear (no freedom) to my liking and the only good thing about it is great eye candy, the graphics are superb.
Also what is the point of fighting everyone if you don't gain any experience or skill points for it? That's daft. Yes the loading times are anoying between scenes/sections in the game. to 6 out of 10.

Gotta ask, how did you beat the cyclops in the spider temple?
I fired a few arrows to get him underneath me, then jumped on his back and went all out with the lightening daggers :D
