Dark Souls 2 - Thread

I find myself struggling to get into this game and I love rpgs . Maybe it's just slow or lack of story or the same thing over N over but I always find myself stopping after a short time. It's a good game but iv found myself just jumping back on to trials fusion after a short time lol. I guess it's annoying me when u die having to go through all the mobs again just to get to where you want to go.

What RPG's do you usually like?

I think some enemies won't respawn after you kill them a few times.

Final fantasy.. The witcher.. Dragon age.. Xenoblade .. Elder scrolls.. Kingdom hearts.. Guild wars. There just doesn't feel like enough variety in ds2. The witcher 2 is one of my favourite because of the story N variety.. I like my rpgs to feel like a big adventure. Dark souls just feels like a rinse and repeat game.

You can use bonfire ascetics to bring the enemies in an area back, including the boss. Beware of doing it though, as it turns the area in to ng+ level. For example, I farmed the dogs in Lost Bastille, then used an ascetic on the bonfire next to the blacksmith, and all of the enemies between the blacksmith and the Ruin Sentinels had respawned, and the Ruin Sentinels themselves, who were now much harder!

The smoothness of the PC version is amazing. Could never go back to the console version again.

Going for a SL1 run. Wish me luck :D.

Edit -

Beat Pursuer on the first encounter :D.

After doing DS1 without using magic decided to do DS2 full magic if poss. So far quite easy just range attacking everything although once i do have to start using swords im gonna be highly unskilled due to lack of practice.

Look at the wall opposite you with one eye closed. Now lift your hand up in front of your face. Are both in focus?

I hear what your saying, but for a third person game it's hard to get right. If the main focus is always on the players behind then shouldn't the player be in focus? If not then the immediate front of the player needs to be in ficus. Like I said, tricky to get a good balance in third person. Good foundation though. Will be watching closely I love enb

I play sorcerer and i'm currently mainly meleeing mobs as its faster but once you hit high lvls spells will become much more powerful with the right gear :)

I've played for ~15 hours this weekend, during which I've died ~100 times. Many of those happened while trying to kill the troll in the starting area with the starting gear and later the Pursuer without a proper shield.

I'm working on a high STR tanking build, hacking my way through monsters while hiding behind my huge shield. I don't recall the last time I've had so much fun in a single player game.. Actually, I don't recall if I have ever had so much fun in a single player game. Maybe Contra 3 or Ninja Gaiden from the early 90s or Blade of Darkness and Gothic from the early 2000s.

To the people who don't "get it". This masterpiece goes back to the basics of gaming when any progression required understanding of the mechanics, the story wasn't "told" by line after line of text/NPC rambling, saving was inexistant and the difficulty was brutal. Not your cup of tea? Good, go play Mass Effect 3 or something and enjoy mastering a game which requires the skills of a brain dead monkey.

Better than the first?

Personally, it's equal, but it feels easier than the first but that might simple be as other have said, because I've completed DS1.

Other than that, it sure has the same values as the first.

I don't really know where all the hidden gems are and what have you yet which is annoying me as I'm probably over a third into the game and only really wearing elite knight armour, shield and a +4 ******* sword.

I am going to try and make sure this is the first game in the series I will actually finish.

I want to make my Knight all tanky, any suggestions for what stats to just concentrate on?

That's a bit strong dude.

Plenty of people don't like dark souls, it doesn't make them some sort of inferior gamer. Dark souls games are notorious for having a storyline that is a bit 'thin' compared to other RPGs. The plot is pretty simple and the various fragments of ambiguous story can fail to satisfy after a while. It's a shame considering how fantastic the ambiance of the game is and the quality voice acting.

Similarly, the difficulty is overhyped a bit. The game isn't as hard as a lot of people make out, particularly the post-patch/nerfed PC version. I don't remember dying once in the last 25% of the game on PC (admittedly I'd already played it through on xbox) and I'm a pretty average gamer. Within a week of release there were a bunch of people finishing with novel challenges (SL1/no deaths/no bonfires/under 2 hours).

It's a solid RPG with awesome gameplay, but the fanboyism around dark souls titles can be pretty unbearable.

I like the game, don't get me wrong, but it's far from a masterpiece. There are some glaringly obvious flaws like soul memory that really ruin the experience in some ways.
