That's a bit strong dude.
Plenty of people don't like dark souls, it doesn't make them some sort of inferior gamer. Dark souls games are notorious for having a storyline that is a bit 'thin' compared to other RPGs. The plot is pretty simple and the various fragments of ambiguous story can fail to satisfy after a while. It's a shame considering how fantastic the ambiance of the game is and the quality voice acting.
I didn't say you're an inferior gamer if you don't like Dark Souls. I did however say that if you don't "get" the appeal of Dark Souls, you belong in a different gaming environment (and there's ultimately nothing wrong with that). Some people love MS3, others love Candy Crush - to each his own. I don't think highly of these people as gamers but so what? I'm sure you can find people who don't think highly of my gaming choices - not the end of the world.
Similarly, the difficulty is overhyped a bit. The game isn't as hard as a lot of people make out, particularly the post-patch/nerfed PC version. I don't remember dying once in the last 25% of the game on PC (admittedly I'd already played it through on xbox) and I'm a pretty average gamer. Within a week of release there were a bunch of people finishing with novel challenges (SL1/no deaths/no bonfires/under 2 hours).
The difficulty is not overhyped at all. In fact, the game is forgiving, dare I say, even easy but
only if you know the mechanics, the timings etc. You cannot know these things after the tutorial and, for most people, you don't know them in the first ten, twenty hours often more. Unlike most other games these days, Dark Souls forces you to
learn - in other words, your character levels up, gains new stats, new spells, new weapons but, more importantly,
you level up too. Your hand eye coordination, your reaction time, your in game knowledge gradually increase to the point where a highly skilled dedicated player can probably finish the game with the starting equipment and little/no souls invested.
It's a solid RPG with awesome gameplay, but the fanboyism around dark souls titles can be pretty unbearable.
I think this is related to the fact that there's nothing like Dark Souls on the market. It being unique makes the fans a bit overly attached but I would say this is understanding. What's the industry doing? Why aren't there more games like this out there?
I like the game, don't get me wrong, but it's far from a masterpiece. There are some glaringly obvious flaws like soul memory that really ruin the experience in some ways.
What game do you consider to be a masterpiece?
