Dark Soul's: Prepare to Die Edition (PC)

I only tend to shield against mobs thats have long range attacks, everything else i two hand but always stay light enough to roll fast to get the hell out of there if i need to. As for O&S, i always summon Solaire, he keeps fatty occupied while i smash skinny, its just a question of how fast you kill him so Solaire has a decent amount of health left to join you in taking on super fatty.

Then I think my only option now (now that I can down the large giants with ease) is to farm humanity and tackle it with him.

I've helped a few people out by being summoned, but none have won, I've tried solo a fair few times and the jist of it is easy enough. It's just I get caught out, pot up, caught out, pot up... Then by the time I down the skinny one, I'm out of pots pretty much and the fatty just dominates me.

So yea, I will get some humanity and summon solaire :)

**** O&S.

I simply can't kill them... I'm out of humanity. The few fights I've been summoned too I've died in.

I think This might be the point where I leave the game here and wait for DS2.

I just can't kill them solo. By the time I've killed the skinny bitch I have a couple or no pots left. And his lightning fast crap just wipes me out.

They are tough, though there are some strategies you can try depending on your build.

Firstly, strong magic is pretty handy against them. If you've done any sequence-breaking prior to facing them you can get some pretty badass spell-boosting items that can help out a lot. You can try combinations of Power Within, Bellowing Dragoncrest Ring and Crown of Dusk that all stack (also Red Tearstone Ring, but that requires you to be on low health which is risky).

I always take out Smough (fatty) first as I like to get Ornsteins armour set and the Leo Ring which is awesome, then I dance around the pillars to take out Ornstein (which takes a while). As long as you stick to pillars, he telegraphs most of his moves pretty well so you can stand back when you need to. However, if you're going for pure melee then it's a bit harder to do this.

Having another player is handy, if nothing else then to at help take aggro off one of them at the beginning while you both nuke Smough. After that it shouldn't matter so much if your helper dies or not as you should be safe enough behind pillars.

People generally say that it's actually easier to take out Ornstein first, however the rewards aren't as great.

That's pretty much how I did it last time I went through. I was doing a one-shot challenge (so aiming to kill every boss in a single attack each) and I managed O&S doing just that. A giant fireball took out Ornstein first, then a Chaos Storm (or similar) took out Smo next. Shame my timing was a split second off as Power Within killed me before I could drink some Estus, but I got them both and that was all that mattered to me :D

I have both power within and giant fireball, maybe I should give that a shot? Need to perk up my attunements though.

The other magic boosting items are pretty easy to get. You can buy the Bellowing Dragoncrest Ring from Griggs of Vinheim for 20,000 souls. Crown of Dusk you can get very easily after you kill the Hydra in Darkroot Basin, kill the golden golem behind the hydra (walk along the left past the waterfall), talk to the spirit that you can then summon in front of the hydra, then go to where the golem was (after reloading the game) and the entire set will be on the floor to pick up if I remember correctly!

Those items are very useful for a lot of bosses as they can increase your magic damage substantially when used together.

Nope, not done the catacombs.

Here are my current stats:

I have only got the chest to +2... And the shield is a grass crescent shield to boost stam regen.

Looking at those, do you think I should be easily fighting O&S with a +10 Uchigatana?

You need to be using a 100% phys block shield, if you are that fussed about Stam regen (it's really not that important, especially considering how fast you are) farm frogs in Darkroot for Green Blossom.

Also I HIGHLY suggest using the Ring of Favor and Protection (boosts Health, Stamina and Equip Load by 20% each), to get it you need to either have killed Lautrec already or use the Black Eye Orb (get it from below Firelink if you haven't already). The ring cant be taken off after equipping it (it breaks) but the stat boost it gives you is ridiculously worth it.

Another suggestion would be turning your +10 Uchi into Quelaag's Furysword, you can do that at the Anor Londo blacksmith, O&S are weak to fire damage and Quelaag's is generally VERY good.

Your armour is also handicapping you a bit, even with Dark Woodgrain you are 10 below what you can have and still flip, you have zero poise and your Physical/Lightning defense is REALLY low.

I disagree with this, purely as a +10 Uchi is a great weapon, and not worth losing to get Queelag's Furysword. I'd rather just spend the souls to upgrade a Falchion to +10 and use that instead, as Falchion's drop much more often. A +15 Uchi on a Dex character is a fabulous weapon and definitely worth keeping.

It's actually one of the worse Dex weapons in the game, the Balder Side Sword and the Great Scythe are better in basically every way, spending a Slab on an Uchi is a massive waste. The Uchis moveset is also pretty meh.

Quelaag's has a better moveset, higher damage and the same Dex scaling at +0.

I'm not really going for a number crunching game, I like the look of the sword and I enjoy the moveset so far. It ties in with my 'ninja' character.

It isn't about number crunching it's just a straight upgrade.

Ignore me on the weapon by all means, however if you ever expect to beat O&S with any dignity you should listen to the rest of my advice.

Not sure I agree with this, BSS is probably the best overall but I'd rate the Uchi pretty high up in the best dex weapons (better than the Iato or Washing Pole imo with a nicer moveset). Having the lunge attack is very useful in corridors (which are plentiful in dark souls), which is a big weakness for some of the other dex weapons.

PvP is another story entirely, as most people seem to pvp out in the open anyway which makes the great scythe probably the best.

Oh I really do appreciate all the advice, not only from you but you all.

It saves me hours upon hours of researching. I am just roleplaying in the game a little as I've said. Ninja character.

I will look at armour tonight, maybe I can slap on a better shield instead and get rid of my stam regen addiction then lol.

If you want to stay "in character" the Eastern set is probably right up your street and will give you much better stats and still weighs very little.

Its one of my favourite sets.

Without adding to the 'all lets disagree with Fenris' action, ive just mashed O&S on my first go with an +10 Uchi, got rid of skinny so fast with it that Solaire had 3/4s of his energy left! :O Agree on the Grass shield though, its great to add stam regen if you want to try different rings other than Havels and you two hand a lot but as a blocking shield its letting damage through that can add up quickly!

The Grass Crest Shield is best for 2-handing a weapon (just keep it on your back and get stamina regen without using up a ring slot for the cloranthy ring). I wouldn't bother trying to block with it though as others have said.

Where can I find it mate?

I'm back at darkroot garden farming souls now. Pretty relaxed but not getting many souls very quickly :(

Are you farming the area just by leaving those 3 guys fall to their death? Around 7k souls in a few mins.

Another great spot for farming if you have good Pyromancy is the Painted world in Anor Londo, you'll need the pendant though to get there.
You can use a shortcut to open the gates early for farming then shortcut out of the level.

You'll actually need the doll.
