Dark Soul's: Prepare to Die Edition (PC)

Just tried to invade somebodies world, backstabbed them twice and parried them and did absolutely no damage, he just stood there use gestures. There are some very very sad people in this world...

God this game is so badly optimized, I had no problems with Skyrim & Crysis but I'm actually playing at 15fps more often than 30 in this, disgusting! GTA 4 was a much better port than this.

No idea what is wrong, game runs flawless for me, even when recording I stay at 30fps.

It's just typical developer practice of neglecting AMD. Bad enough they are the worst processors, why does everything have to be designed in a way that they work bad on them on top of that? Crazy.

Oh right, it is only AMD CPU's is it? That sucks :( I thought you had a Q6600

Only one I've seen that doesnt run this game terrily is the £300 odd FX-8150, might as well get a high end i5 for that.

What is the current fix everyone is using for resolution etc? Or have the devs fixed it? (Or abandoned post launch)

Look at the second post of the Hints & Tips thread, its there.

Sorted my slowdown issues out, I read somewhere that forcing everything to the max via CCC and not using the applications settings will improve performance. Now I've reset my graphics profile and using application settings it looks the same but now more slowdowns. Love to know how to get rid of these stutters though!

Couple of questions:

1) using the res fex, some odd issues though, the darkness of the game is insane! Have to bump it to 10 to make the left symbol barely visable. Thankfully it's just about playable and adds and edge!

2) What now? Totally forgot what to do, been too wrapped up in getting goodies lol. Killed the gargoyles, got the axe and shield from the first one. To be honest, 2 min fight with the drake sword. Very easy and quick. 9 hits per gargoyle.

2a) I have killed the board and opened the gate behind it. Easy peasy, killed the sorcerer at the top of the balcony leading to the gargoyles, seen the blacksmith and melee killed that lightning zap dude (took 2 attempts :(). Ventured into the forest area and got to the doors and remembered I need that 10k soul key from the blacksmith, so can farm souls for 30 mins to get that. But I cannot remember the next part of the story??? In the sewers with those BEYOND ANNOYING spores and rats. And the butcher dude to kill.

Should I go to the right of those doors in the forest and sort out that butterfly boss? Grabbed the normal soul arrows from the dude behind bars down the lift to the city where all the ghosts are. So she will be pretty easy.

Oh, one last night, the writing tool... To leave online messages, I must have missed it as I can't remember where to get it or find it with any of the NPC's. Really can't remember.

Thanks!

Didn't know it had to be shots to the tail, on the Xbox 360 I shot him in the face then pelted him with arrows when he was on the bridge from below near the rats and still got it. :(

1) no idea.

2) go to Blighttown through the Depths, go into the door opposite the door which leads back to the Taurus Demon's bridge.

3) might as well do Darkroot for extra lewtz, grab the Elite Knight Armor if you haven't already. Kill the Hydra too, he is incredibly easy as long as you get close to him and past those missiles he shoots.

Don't bother with stat scaling, just wait until your in Anor Londo and make your Claymore lightning, stat scaling is extremely moot as you can get the same/more damage from non scaled, elemental weapons. That way all the points you don't waste in strength/dex can be pumped into end/vit.

This is both good and utterly horrible advice.

For PvE in the first playthrough and part of NG+ it's true. It is a lot easier to simply go elemental and gouge vit after getting END to 40 (it's largely useless beyond that) as you get good damage and survivability. However after this point, due to elemental damage not scaling, you will start to be left behind, at which point stat scaling weapons or magic becomes by far the better choice.

In PvP however you will just get laughed at. It is incredibly easy to defend against lightning damage. I advise anyone interested in PvP builds to check out the various wikis and forums.

Depends, the investment required (at least one stat at 40 which otherwise wouldnt be with a elemental weapon) has diminishing returns as a build that wants to stay at a decent level can't afford to put vit in the 30's, endurance in the 30's and a scaled stat, unless your talking about Moonlight Greatsword etc with a sorcerer character. Creating a strength build IMO is useless before level 100+ as the stats you need to do damage could have gone into attunement and a spell stat to procure some very useful tools.

Scaled builds are viable, but only a sorcery character can be at the top of the pile when it comes to PVP out of the scaled builds, a soul level 125 with an elemental weapon will have far more HP, stamina and tons of various spells where as a level 125 with scaled weaponry will most likely be about 20% more damaging with actual melee with nowhere near as many tools.

That's how it was on the 360 anyway, maybe it's changed for PC.

Well I'm comparing my Zweihander +15 w/ 40 strength to a Zweihander +5 (Lightning) and the Lightning is outdamaging it by a hundred points, people on the DaS forums are telling me its useless going past 40 with a stat for scaling as you get 'diminishing returns' so I'm yet to see the use of stat scaling, can anybody spec me a better weapon? Although I think it'll be hard to find something +15 that outdamages the Zwei that has a good moveset.

The only good movesets from great weapons IMO are Moonlight Blade (int scaled), Black Knight weapons (but required big dex), Grant (50 faith lolol), Demon's Greataxe, and the Zweihander. I'd use the Claymore but it is in no way shape or form a scaling weapon, only useful as an elemental weapon.

Finishing the game isn't the problem, it's going into PVP and hitting 40 on somebody with a 2 handed power attack when your weapons scaled at over 600 damage that's the problem. :p

That and people suddenly becoming Albert Wesker and backstabbing me from 10 feet away.

Don't you just love PC gaming? Like on this game I never get any lag at all, never been backstabbed without me being a muppet etc etc. I get some bullet lag on BF3 though and many others don't. Love it

I lag all over the place with a lot of fights, last night I invaded 4 unique people, 2 were from Korea and another from Taiwan. The 4th was some little gay from the UK who quit out as soon as I invaded.

People ALWAYS lag behind me and backstab me though, and there is some bull**** lag that makes parries not work, I'll parry them successfully, they'll be stunned and reeling backwards but then I'll press RB and nothing, just a normal attack, no riposte or anything.

If you have the stats the Abyss Greatsword is great, I've been using it with my Dark Wraith build. It scales with your stats a little, and then how much Humanity you have. It hits for a bit more damage than the Black Knight sword.

The moveset is good, standard light attacks, but one handed heavy does a 360 attack that gets people who try to backstab, two handed heavy does a flip attack like the boss which does loads of damage and grounds them for a second.

Stupid stat requirements though, useless for a strength build. :(
