Dark Soul's: Prepare to Die Edition (PC)

Indeed. I blew through the Four Kings on NG++ without any trouble by using the same combination. I think my next character will have to be melee based (or perhaps a Faith build), otherwise I'll end up falling back on the Dark Magic as it's so easy to use (though it's awesomely cool as well).

Have you tried a DEX build? You rely a lot more on rolling and because the weapons don't do as much damage as magic or a heavy greatsword it can drag boss fights out longer it adds some additional challenge.

Just wondering, will using the xliveless file with this completely stop the game from running through GFWL (as in starting up GFWL in the first place to launch the game)?

Nope, not really. I actually really like Dex based weapons like the Uchigatana, but the two builds I've done in the past have ended up being fairly well rounded. I could definitely see myself doing a Dex/Faith build next time, as I don't feel any of the Miracles are overpowered, but they are certainly useful (especially WOTG and the Lightning Spear).

WOTG is probably a bit too situational to use outside of trolling in PVP :p. Sunlight Sword to power up your weapon (As it's damage tends to be on the lower side) and (Great) Lightning Spear as a secondary source of damage would probably be a very good DEX/Faith Build for PVM.

I really don't get the hype around this at all, just as you hear people wanting to get away from the grind....others relish it.

Everything from the unfriendly PC deal you get and have to mod, to a spastic menu system, cumbersome combat which for the past god knows hours/days has been relegated to "Shield up, wait for enemy to swing, attack, shield up again" over and over x1000. The whole living in a corridor world is bothering me as well, or the boss is so big half the time it'll let you roll through it/run through it and other times you might aswell be stuck between a wall and a hard place ffffffffff alright I'll stop.

But you get the point, I'm just glad I didn't have to spend money on it and I'm still giving it a go to play with my friend but, I have to force myself to play. It's not the difficulty or dying really, it's just the game itself I'm struggling to have fun in.

I dunno, it's almost as if people haven't played any other hack/slash or dungeon runner before and suddenly thiers a novelty in grindy repetitious death, or it's a masochists game!

Havent played the game my self. Put off by the fact the devs havent ported it to PC properly.

But I think it's a bit of a marmite game. Some people like the game to be tough, hardcore and unforgiving.

I havent played it, so have no idea if I would enjoy it.

There isn't that much grinding from what I know

Everything from the unfriendly PC deal you get and have to mod, to a spastic menu system,

What?

cumbersome combat which for the past god knows hours/days has been relegated to "Shield up, wait for enemy to swing, attack, shield up again" over and over x1000.

Isn't that like most games when you play a knight? Try another class?

The whole living in a corridor world is bothering me as well, or the boss is so big half the time it'll let you roll through it/run through it and other times you might aswell be stuck between a wall and a hard place ffffffffff alright I'll stop.

It's not difficult to notice not to go near walls sometimes, especially in a souls game!

But you get the point, I'm just glad I didn't have to spend money on it and I'm still giving it a go to play with my friend but, I have to force myself to play. It's not the difficulty or dying really, it's just the game itself I'm struggling to have fun in.

It's rewarding, you don't die if you're not an idiot.

I don't think I'll bother discussing when you can't even see how grindy it is :p
It's the epitome of one.

Don't go near walls? The whole game (SO FAR) is walls within an arms reach most of the time. I don't think you understood my point and latched on to the fact I said the word walls.
It was an example of how restrictive the world is.

Seriously, if you think this game is grindy you obviously haven't played many RPGs with it!

I can't remember grinding for a single thing in my 250+ hours in this game.

Everything from the unfriendly PC deal you get and have to mod,

We not only get it cheaper than consoles, we also get early access to the DLC. Also if you find it hard or tedious to extract a folder into your directory and change a few numbers in a config file, then sell your PC and go play on the Xbox.

to a spastic menu system,

Feels completely fine to me, I don't know what else you expected? It's fit for purpose and works, sorry that it doesn't have an integrated GPS system like most other RPG's and a built in difficulty slider.

cumbersome combat which for the past god knows hours/days has been relegated to "Shield up, wait for enemy to swing, attack, shield up again" over and over x1000.

If that's how you play, then you're a fanny and you're completely missing out the point of using dual weapons, 2 handers, parry daggers, rapiers etc... basically the entire game! If you want to use a sword and shield what do you expect?

The whole living in a corridor world is bothering me as well, or the boss is so big half the time it'll let you roll through it/run through it and other times you might aswell be stuck between a wall and a hard place ffffffffff alright I'll stop.

You don't live in corridors. More of the world is spent in gigantic open spaces with gorgeous vistas, and it has the best designed game world in recent time.

But you get the point, I'm just glad I didn't have to spend money on it and I'm still giving it a go to play with my friend but, I have to force myself to play. It's not the difficulty or dying really, it's just the game itself I'm struggling to have fun in.

You didn't have to pay yet you can play coop? The pirating world has evolved then, either that or it was a gift, and if so be grateful?

I dunno, it's almost as if people haven't played any other hack/slash or dungeon runner before and suddenly thiers a novelty in grindy repetitious death, or it's a masochists game!

There is no grinding, you either suck and die, or don't suck and don't die. Do or Do Not, there is no Try.

So what it comes down to, is that you suck, and believe the game sucks because you suck. You should stick to Skyrim or whatever it is you play. It's this kinda of attitude that's turning almost every game into an overglorified Heavy Rain.

I was a little surprised that you can't sell your items.

You can, just wait until an undead looking gigantic penis bursts out of the ground in Firelink Shrine. :D

It has big floppy ears and funny teeth, weirdly enough. :p

What it comes down to is that you're having an aggressive reaction based of many, many assumptions and have an inabilty to read the very clear point below.

It's not the difficulty or dying really, it's just the game itself I'm struggling to have fun in. If that isn't clarity enough let me expound, I don't like the game, I don't have fun in it. I will still give it a try and continue to progress, but it's difficult when you're not having fun.

First you assume I found it hard to mod, then go on to do the same with the interface navigation to think I meant guidance and difficulty.

To add more assumption, is that you don't know (well you can figure it out) what class I play nor know what items I have at the time and think I don't know you can use more weapons, what I'm saying is the best tactic for now is to just block -everything- and then strike. It works every single time, without fail, I've yet to get that far to do otherwise, pay particular and special attention to the fact I've only played for a few hours over the last 3 days.

"gigantic open spaces with gorgeous vistas"

Sorry (I'm being sincere here) but, I may be wrong here and I will happily concede since it seems to be a competition about who's right or wrong with you, but before I played the game every single video showed corridor gameplay, when I got the game that's exactly what I got. Lots and lots and lots of endless corridors, a few open platforms and wide bridges but for the most part just invisible ankle height walls, but if you can show me otherwise, please, do..

To add EVEN MORE assumption you assume I pirated it because I didn't pay, then add the tidbit of it being a gift at the end of a loaded statement, of course it was a gift, all I said was I didn't pay for it.
Also, what business is it of yours if I should be grateful or not, of course I'm grateful, but I can't make myself like something I didn't ask for. (Edit: Also, hah... even with an experienced player showing me the ropes coop isn't working for us) :| But we assume it's level disparity, so I'm getting higher level.

Edit: Apparently internet forum browsers is that, if you don't like a game you must also be bad at it.

Were you also the person that previously said it's the best graphics in a game you've seen?

No personal insults

First person to not dislike the game cause they can't do it then, you're the first person to actually think the gameplay mechanics are bad, nice.

First you assume I found it hard to mod, then go on to do the same with the interface navigation to think I meant guidance and difficulty.

Then why try and use the fact you have to fix it to get it working properly as a negative tick against it? It takes 5 seconds, you never, ever see anybody insulting games that are technical pieces of trash like Skyrim and War of the North, and they aren't even fixable.

As for the interface, it's built for purpose and does it's job perfectly . It's clunkiness comes from the fact you aren't supposed to use it mid combat, Otherwise it's easy to manage, there just aren't any shortcuts to speak of. It's no more clunky or hard to use than Steam itself.

How far have you got exactly? The only closed areas are the Parish at the beginning, the Duke's Archives, Anor Londo Castle and The Depths... oh and the Chaos Tunnels. Those are maybe 20% of the game? You've been playing a few hours, you've seen nothing of the game yet.

To add EVEN MORE assumption you assume I pirated it because I didn't pay, then add the tidbit of it being a gift at the end of a loaded statement, of course it was a gift, all I said was I didn't pay for it.

The online is the only **** thing in the game, it's pathetic, it was the same on the 360 and it's beyond disappointing.

Edit: Apparently internet forum browsers is that, if you don't like a game you must also be bad at it.

Far from it, but so far all the bashing on this game has only come from people who don't like being punished for dying, and blame the game for them dying when in reality they are bad, it's the common scrub's go to with any game, really.

You accused the game of being a giant grind, so what else would somebody assume? The only grinding in this game is from dying, and if you die, that's on you, nobody else.

Were you also the person that previously said it's the best graphics in a game you've seen?

It looks better than the majority of games, but I've never said it has the best graphics in a game, but it's miles ahead of it's competition, and better than anything to come out in the past 6 months, Crysis 1 and 2 still beat it, as does Metro. Don't put words in my mouth mate...

As for the things I didn't directly respond to, I concede and apologise.

Oh, that thing with sort of flappy ears? Well, if I can sell to a gigantic would be Alice in Wonderland rabbit then I'm game for that? :D

He can eat Titanite as well, like you can feed him a Titanite Slab and get 3 Chunks, or feed him a Large Shard for 3 Shards blah blah. :)
